At 11:45 the convention adjonrned till 1:30 p. m. AFTERNOON SESSION. At the opening of the afternoon session the commmittee on credentials reported, after which was submitted the report of the committee on permanant organization. The free and unlimited coinage of silver .waa dethe issue of interest bearing bonds in times of peace; the power to issue money being delegated to individuals and corporations was decried; a tariff for revenue only was advocated, and Dingleyism and McKinleyism were denounced; the funding of the Central imical to the people’s interests; protection for the labor interests were urged; Governor Budd’s administration was approved and endorsed, as was also that of Congressman De Vries; construction of the Nicaraugua canal was favored; James G. After some discussion in which E. J. Rector participated, Mr. Prisk, seconded by Mr. Ebaugh, moved as an amendment to the amendment that the twelve delegates be elected by the convention at large. : The report as amended by Mr. Prisk was .adopted. . __The collection of assessments: resulted in $44.50 being turned into the treasury. ; At this juncture Thos. H. Carr moved as an amendment to the report ‘of the resolution committee that the delegates be pledged to secure the nomination of Maguire-as Governor. -Senator Prisk opposed tying up the delegation, although he favored Mr. Maguire’s candidacy. G. W. Giffen moved to table the amendment but subsequently withdrew his motion. Mr. Carr made a strong speech in defense of his contention. He warned the convention that in his opinion Governor Budd: was endeavoring to secure a renonfination, and he believed that a “milk and water resolution” like that of the committee wonld leave the door open for a throwdown of Maguire. Messrs. Donnelly, Blue, Rector, all said if they were delegates they would support Maguire, bnt they did not think it best to pledge. Thos. 8, Ford favored the amendment. It is stated that at Angels Camp water is being sold at ten cents a bucket, that at Valley Spring twentyfive cents is charged for watering a ton Mail is told by a man that. on the Fourth of July he hadpaid a dime fora drink of water in one of the foothill towns. = The cause of this state of things is said to be twofold, In the first place, where there used to be twenty feet of snow in that part of the mountains there were but two feet last year, and the water supply is consequently searce now and will be until the rains set in. Besides this, a water plant is being put in near Jackson, Amador county, which will consume a large quanity of the flow coming down the ditch there, and is is expected that the price for water will increase. According to the story told by the Mokelumne Hill man, the people think it is a good time to accustom themselves to high prices. Tonight’s Band Concert.
