All this occurred back East. : ‘It was not long before there was a) wedding and ngt much longer before the young couple were the recipients of a startiing letter from their generous Uncle Bill Taylor, of Nevada City, congratulating them on their grit, and proposing if they would come to Nevada City he would start them in life. is * They soon bade loved ones adieu and started in this direction. “Uncle Bill met the much elated young couple at the depot and led them straight-way to the National Exchange Hotel, a-large and well appointed hostelry, where be had previously ar-. ranged with the affable hosts, Messrs. Rector Bros., for very comfortable and pleasant quarters. It was while partaking of a tempting ‘menu in the cheerfully furnished dining room .of the National hotel that Uncle Bill first ventured into detail informing the eager new-comers that he would begin at once to build and equip a splendid home, ina fashfonable part of town for them, and in the meantime you'll find everything home-like and agreeable here with approved conveniences and comfcrts of town and country about. Since it is ‘Uncle Bill’s aim for a modern residence, to eclipse any contemporary domicile in town, and, pogsessing but a vague idea himself as to what would be imposing and acceptable he remembered Rice & Lewis as being in touch with twentieth century ideas of architecture, as well as assuming contracts for any character of building. So he made 4. bee-line for the office and made known the object of his visit. After arranging for the plans he awarded the contract to execute the mansion to Rice & Lewis, “for,” said he, nobddy ever questions their integrity on facilities for turning off a contract to the letter. Thus the young couple get the first conception of the new environments soon to be theirs. In erecting a home—one, perhaps, to be left as a tribute of family pride to succeeding generations, it is very necessary to use only Al lumb r and building materials. Otherwise in a few years the building would decay, i ee seme “A house that augments the of supply to consumers in t cupying neat quarters, replete with many brands of “bigh grade teas Taylor, the affable and conversant tea and coffee trade, and his success here bespeaks his tact and capacity. He is well equipped for roasting his coffees daily and blending his own teas. And*the connoisseur will ever . fiod at Taylor’s Tea and Coffee House @ varied assortment of fresh, palatable goods, among which is the much sought for “Oommercial Blend Tea,” and judging from the active trade accorded the house there are many who delight in a delicious cup of tea or coffee, Housewives also find there well selected lines of Queensware; crockery and g'ass ware, as well as many utensila, for the kitchen. “One thing more before dispensing with the question of ‘the larder.’ Now, regarding good, fresh and cured meats, and kindred supplies, which are salient adjuucts to the larder. I would suggest’ Grissel Bros., our live meat dealers, as’ keeping a vigilant watch in these commodies, with a most inviting and completely equipped market, and ample cold storage facilities, is ever stocked with the best and most palatable refrigerated meats and home rendered ieaf lard, to meet the wants of an extensive and appreciative list of families, who recognize meritorious. purveying. Uncle Bill laughed to see the busy salesman handle the cleaver and saw withso much dexterity, but his’ countenance gréw sérious as he stated to Grissel, in unmistakable terms, that he should always send him the choicest cuts. ‘ “Since Uncle Bill has tired himself out tramping the pesky dusty streets, he seeks a more agreeable and dignified means for transportation and one morein keeping with his mode of living. Hence be at once made tracks for A. A. Attkinson’s carriage and wagon shops and consulted the well versed and genial owner about a family carriage. “Only a short time elapsed before he appeared. on the street in gleeful spirits stating that he had arranged with Atbuilt to order and equiped with every modern device that adds to comfort and convenience, for said he Attkinson is known to the trade as a péer in his branches. As a horse shoer, general biacksmith and builder of business or pleasure vebicles. “Ob yes, Uncle! I wish you would recommend a reliable lanudry, Harry is so particular about his linen.” All right replied“ the old man as he laughed heartily..
