During the past two days the mercury in the thermometer has descended at least ten degrees, and thie slight change has been welcomed by all. The weather prognosticators of San Francisco have been predicting rain for the past two or three days, but as yet the desired supply of moisture has not arrived, A generous shower of rain would be a most welcome visitor at this period, as it would put out the forest fires, cool the atmosphere, besides doing an immeasurable amouut of good in other ways. A Big Bond. Sacgamento, Aug. 15—In cutting down the salary attached to the office of Debris Commissioner the Legislature made no change in the provision relative to the bond required. Jobn F. Kidder, as Commissioner, received @ compensation of $10 for days and holidaye, or $8650 for the year. The present Commissioner, W. W. Waggoner, receives but $600 a year. A bond of $50,000 was required from both, although no fees area ttached to the office-.and no money ishandled. Waggoner’s bopd is from a Surety Oompany and the rate he has to pay for it cuts down his compensation fully $100 a year. Mr, Kidder was undoubtedly paid too much, but the bond required from Mr. Waggoner ie claimed to be altogether out of proporation to the amount of compensation received. W. Mathewson to Miss Fannie B. Chadwick, two of . Hanford’s most popular young people, ‘took place. The wedding was a very. quiet affair, only the immediate relatives and a few of the bride’s most intimate friends being present. The ceremony was performed in the parlor of the Schnereger residence, in the alcove of the large bay window, by Rev. Mynard, of the Episcopal church. After the guests assembled in the parlor, which had ‘been beautifully decorated with trailing ivy, La France roses and smilax, the bridal party entered: Miss Geneva Wiseman, cousin of the bride, and the groomeman, William Ohadwick, brother of the bride, and bride and Sweet strains of the wedding march, played by Miss Edith Anderson, seemed to fill the gueste with delight and even madethe brideand groom seem more than happy as they neared the arch of the bay window, where they took their positions and with an impressive ceremony were soon man and wife.
