A son and three daughters survive BY TELEPHONE. The Latest Events at Grass Valley Up to ' 4 O'clock This Afternoon. Mrs, Emeritt S. Lewis, relict of the late S. G. Lewis, founder of the Grass Valley Tidings, died at 4:30 o'clock this morning, at ber home several miles below Grass Valher, viz: Albert Lewis, Mra. D. 8. Coflin, Mrs. M. P. Stone and Mrs, Hugh J., Baldwin. Mrs. Lewis had-been—a—resident of Grass Valley and vicinity for twenty years. Young Edgington, who was accidentally shot in the foot about a week ago, has not been getting along very well, and today the attending physician fonnd it necessary to take off the last two toes of the injured foot. ° Yesterday a man named Eddy, who had a gradge against Charles Brockington, Superintendent of the Orleans mine, and who bad threatened to shout the latter, stationed himself at Brockington’s gate, armed with a shotgun, and waited for the Superintendent to come out. St. JoserH, Mo., August 15.—Foster’s last bulletin’ gave forecasts of the storm waves to cross the continent about August 16th to 20th, and the next will reach the Pacific Coast about August 21st and cross the western mountaim close of the 23d, country by the This disturbance will be unusually severe in'and west: of the Rocky mountains, and the cool wave following will vause killing frosts in the upper Missouri, upper Miasissippi and Red River of the North valleys, The warm wave will. cross the west. of the Rocky country about August 2lst, the great central valleys about August 23d and the Eastern States about the 25th. Near August 22nd, September 18th, October 1th and Novemb>r 12th brilliant auroras will probably be observed, In my next bulletin dated August 24th, will bs given detailed forecast of temperature, rainfall, storm waves, severe storms and frosts for September. The calcula tions have been carefully revised, and 1 expect 85 per-cent. of them to prove correct, September is the important month preparatory to sowing small grain, and a correct forecast of the weather will be. very valuable. Moore has rented the house formerly occupied by Thomas Kidd and family, on Broad street, two doors below the fire house. : In the Superior Court today in the estate of Henry Smith, deceased, an order was made fixing time for hearing petition for order setting apart estate for widow. Fruit is being brought to this market quite lively now, and most of it meets with a ready sale. Strawberries finer than any offered here earlier in the season were on sale a few days ago, The owners of the Miners Foundry, seeing the danger of blasting iron on their lot, will make arrangements for having it done where there is little chance of any'one being hurt. A merry-go-round arrived here yesterday, and the owners found some difficulty in securing a suitable place to put it up. They finally rented the Stover lot, at the foot of Broad street, and the machine is now ready for business, Weisenburger & Coffey returned yesterday from-North Bloomfield, where they have been for the past -few: days putting up a monument and coping at the grave of: the plate W. Prisk of the Grass Valley Union will contain about 150 pages, and in point of typography will be a very handsome publication, 1t will be well illustrated with engravings of public buildings and scenes of Nevada City and Grass Valley, private residences, mines, prominent men, etc, The text has been carefully compiled and presents the resources of the county in an. authentic and interesting mauner, Messrs, Prisk and Snyder will finish soliciting here on Monday or Tuesday next, and those who desire advertisements, illustrations or write-ups, should be prepared to give their orders promptly.
