The ledge at the present time is from ten o twelve inches in thickness, but it is growing all the time ae the tunnel advances. The rock is quite rich in free gold and sulphurets. Supervisor Grissel and A. Olson have this property bonded at acertain figure. Their tunnel js now over 600 feet in length, and at a depth from the surface of nearly three hundred feét. The boys may be happy yet—who knows? A. mining expert by the name of Vanderford, from Spokane, Washington, has been here and gone. While here he thoroughly examined all the principal mines in this vicinity. The gentleman seemed highly pleased with the outlook, If his talk can be depended on, he is now somewhere in the State of Washington endeavoring to organize a company t6 mands some Mr, Poundstone, sajpactieenhoat, of the Gaston Ridge mine, has promised to be at this place within the next five days to examine one ortwo valuable properties that are for sale at a bargain, A great deal of work in the way of repairing and putting in new flumes on the North Bloomfield ditch will be done below Bowman’s dam the coming fall. About. 800,000 feet of flame-lumber is-at--this-time being sawed out for that purpose at Smart’s mill, above Graniteville, Superintendent Myers of the North Bloomfield mine and Mr. Shand are now engaged in making a survey fora new ditch across country from the Gaston Ridge mine to the North Fork of Poorman’s creek, The new ditch will convey water to run the mine and mill at Gaston Ridge while repairs are being made on the big ditch. It will be dug large enough to carry four hundred inches. The water supply is to be taken from the Milton or Eureka Lake ditch at Graniteville. Active work will be commenced on the proposed ditch in about a week, or just as sodn as the survey is finished. From thirty to forty men will be employed on the. work, and they will, stop at Mrs. Peck’s hotel, at the crossing of the Bloomfield ditch. Your correspondent will be in the gang. CHarLtrs MOKELVEY. Gone for Treatment. Chas, Y. McCormick, .who brought his wife down from Alleghany, Sierra county, yesterday, for medical treatment, decided to take her to Sacramento, and they left on this morning's train, Will Build a Briek. Legg & Shaw have décided to improve their property on Main street, by replacing the wooden structure adjoining their hardware store, with a modern, two-story brick building. A force of men are now at work tearing down the old building, and in a few days excavating will be commenced, preparatory to putting in a concrete foundation. The new building will have a frontage of thirty feet on Main street, and a depth of seventy feet. There will be a cellar the entire length of the building, in which a conorete floor will be laid. The side wall of the present brick building will be taken down and moved to the lower side of the new building, and together the buildings will have a frontage of seventy feet, The entire building will be heated by steam, and fitted up with the latest electrical ‘appliances. An elevator will also be put in. A plate glass front will be placed in the lower floor. The lower floors will be devoted to hardware, furniture and other heavy articles, and the second story will be used for carpets and wall paper, The Legg-& Shaw’Co. will occupy the entire building.
