‘Old Constitution Mine Sold.
The old Constitution mine, which is_located on Deer creek near the Federal Loan,
has been purchased by William Floyd of
this city and a number of other gentlemen,
They new owners propese to open the mine
up and preliminary work has already been
commenced and will be continued as rapidly
as possible. TheConstitution is one of
the oldest mines in this district and was
at one time one of the richest. It has not
been worked for many years owing to unavoidable circumstances, and it remains for
the present company to build it up to what
it once was. Large quantities of ore were
extracted from the property during its working existence, and most of the rock had to
be taken below for treatment, The ore
was exceedingly rich, containing a very high
grade of sulphurets, and paid handsomely.
A Place of His Own.
Robert Simmons, Sr., of
last Saturday purchased the property
owned by James Bennallack, commencing
at the corner of Broad and Pine streets and
continuing to~Geo. E. Turner's hardware

To Elect Delegates.
Notice to the electors of Nevada Township.—A mass meeting of the People’s
Party will be held in the open air on Saturday evening, in front of the stand at the
junction of Broad and Pine streets, in Nevada City, for the punpose of nominating
and electing tWo delegates, from each precinct in Nevada township, to act at the
County Convention of the People’s Party,
called for August 30, 1894. The meeting
will.be called to order at 8 o’clock sharp.
The People’s Party are not afraid to trust
the people to nominate and elect their delegates, J. 1. CaLpwELL,
U. L. Berexron,
Gro. W. JonEs,
Of County Central Committee.
At about 8 and a half o’clock on the evening aforesaid, the Hon. J. I. Caldwell and
U. L, Beightel, two of the aforesaid named
parties, appeared propria persona upon the
aforesaid named stand. For an half hour
or more previous to the time that the aforesaid meeting was called tovorder, the afore,
said named parties, to-wit: Caldwell and

who had assembled there to see the aforesaid novel way carried into effect, to-wit:
Thaé of electing delegates in the aforesaid
open air to attend the aforesaid. People’s
Party convention to be held in the city of
Nevada, county of Nevada, State of .California, on Thursday, Aug. 30th, in the year
of our Lord; 1894. At the time, heretofore
stated, Mr. Caldwell arose from his seat
(not, however, until a genuine Black Republican had called the aforesaid Caldwell’s
Attention to the fact that it was getting late
object of it. The aforesaid Caldwell did
then and there state that the People’s Party
nate and elect the aforesaid delegates in the
lowing a few moments to elapse and none
of his aforesaid audience coming to the centhe aforesaid Caldwell sailed in, in
words, in a lively manner against’ his oldtime friend, to-wit: Grover . Clevelend,
whereat many Democrats were disgusted
After he had concluded his sehe said: ‘Gentlemen, the TRANSCRIPT says
tbe People’s Party has taken a new departure in selecting its delegates to its county
convention, and the TRANscRiPY is right.
The People’s Party is for the people first,
last and all the time, with no bosses to put
up jobs. The Secretary will now call the
list of delegates for each precinct in Nevada
township,” and then the aforesaid Caldwell
planted himself in a chair,
Mr. Uriah L. Beightol came forward and
read the names of the following delegates,
which were not nominated by the audience:
Nevada City Precinct No. 1.—N. B.
Kinkead and James H. Sharp.
Nevada City Precinct No. 2. —John A.
Wilson and Hugh McCauly.
Nevada City Precinct No. 3.—A. G.
Craig and J. C. Locklin.
‘Gold Flat Precinct.—Henry Odgers. and
William C. Fredenburr.
Selby--Flat.-Presinct.—O. A> —bompkine
and Victor C, Gates. _ ree
Indian Flat. Precinct. Joseph ‘Murphy
and John Curry.
The aforesaid Beightol then.took his seat,
and then and there the afofesaid Caldwell
came to the front again and said:
“Gentlemen, you have heard the list of
delegates that have been nominated and all
in favor of their selection will say aye.”
About-a-dosen-men-and about_two dozen
kids said ‘‘I.’’ Whereupon the atoresaid
Caldwell, without asking if they were ready
for the question or calling for negative
votes, as provided by parliamentary law,
proclaimed the delegates duly elected to the
county convention to be held at the afore-.
said time and place.
As stated by the Transcrivr a few days
ago, ‘‘it was decidedly a new departure.”
The aforesaid parties, to-wit: the chiefs
of the People’s Party, namely: J. I, Caldwell and U. L. Beightol, have had a great
deal to say about Dan. Burns running the
Republican Party, and Chris. Buckley the
Democratic Party. Now the people at
large, and the TraNscrivt, the paper aforesaid named, would like to know:
Have not the People’s Party two bosses
in Nevada township more audacious than
Burns or Buckley ever dared to be, and
should not the aforesaid bosses, Caldwell
and Beightol, in future hold sacred the
names of the aforesaid Burns and Buckley
ia.doing those things that the aforesaid
‘Burns and Buckley have never stooped to?

BURNED FRIDAY NIGHT.
The Hoisting “Works at the Eagle
Bird Mine.
At twenty minutes to twelve o'clock on
Friday night last, the hoisting works at
the Eagle Bird mine at Maybert by some
means caught fire and were totally destroyed, together with everything connected
therewith, The mill and all other buildings were scorched but not damaged.
The fire is supposed to have caught from
an old stove which the miners used to heat
their night lunches. The miners down below were working on the seven-hundred
and eight-hundred levels and of course
knew nothing of the fire above, and it was
just about the time that they went up to
eat their 12-o’clock lunches. ‘The bucket
at the time was hanging at the seven-hundred-foot level. A Chinaman stepped into
it to ascend to the surface, as he did so the
bucket and wire rope, with Chinaman,
suddenly dropped to the eight-hundredfoot level, instantly killing the poor celestial, An inquest was held on the Chinaman by the Justice of the Peace of Washington yesterday afternoon, The Chinaman killed was a high-up Mason and_ will
be buried tomorrow at Washington with all
the honors of that fraternity. The damage
will probably be ‘in the neighborhood of
$2000. It will take about two months to
rebuild the hoisting works again, All
work will stop of course till that time.
The mill will commence crushing today
with several hundred tons of rock on hand,
