The one tap atracted the attention of alarm was turned in, Ohief ‘Wolf and the three hose wagons were soon on their way toward Piety Hill. ‘When they arrived at the scene they found‘the house of William Williame, situated on the upper Grass Vi road just at the top of the hill beyor the place where the old half-mile house formerly stood, burning furiously. A number of men and boys pulled the hose cart from the Piety Hill Fire House and bad a stream of water on the flames when the other firemen arrived. The house adjoining that of Mr. Williams, occupied by G. Zopfi and family caught fire several putting it out each time. The furniture in the Zopfi home was taken out of the house and considerably damaged but other than that the damage was small. Mr. Williams’ barn, in which eight tons of Lay is stored, also caught fire several times bot was each time extinguished. Mr. Williams says that he lit a fire in the kitchen stove at about 7 o’clock cows, and at about 7:20 he happened to look toward the house and noticed that the roof was burning fariously. He ran to the house and awakened his family, who were still in'bed, but was unable to save anything but a sewing was entirbly destroyed and the loss is estimated at about $1500.
