Train Wreckers Frustrated.
An attempt was made to wreck the weatbound overland train (No. 2) due at Colfax
shortly before midnight last night, by unknown persons who removed the fish-plates

Oscar Coflin came up from Grass Valley
last night and left on the stage-this morning for the Empire mine,
Richard Jones, Miss Mary Tennigs and
Mrs. B. Murphy came down from Wasbington today, and will remain a few day»
on a visit to friends.

rails at a point near Cape Horn. ‘The trackwalker came along as they had their devilish
work nearly completed, and they ran away.
When he discovered what had been done he
telephoned for a force of section hands and
warned the approaching train of the danger.
It took some time to repair the track and the
train was considerably delayed in consequence. The regular soldiers on guard at
Colfax and vicinity were recently withdrawn,
but it is anticipated that they will now be
recalled. 2
Many Mining Men.
There was an unusually large number of
mining men from Grass Valley and vicinity
on our streets teday. They were attending
the case of N. W. Coombs vs, James Hague,
which is going on in the Superior Court.

Going to Grass Valley.
A large delegation of the Masons of this
city will pay an official visit to the lodge
at Grass Valley tonight. They go down
to confer the Master Mason Degree upon
a number of the members at that city.

Not Strong.
It is quite evident that the Populists will
not cut much of a figure in this township
during the coming election. They have
done some lively work to obtain signatures
to their club roll andhave only succeeded
in getting about sixty names so far out o/
about fifteen hundred voters,
