force of linemen arrived in Marysville
Monday morning, says the Democrat, and
commenced the work of placing the longdistance telephones and express system on
the local lines of the Sunset Telephone
Company.
A new switchboard to conform with the
new system will be put in the central office,
and larger poles will be erected.
Every subscriber will be provided with a
long-distance ‘‘phone” within a month, and
hereafter it will not be. necessary to “ring
up” the central office ; simply removing the
ear-piece from the hook places the subscriber in communication with the central
cffices, : :
The Transcrier understands that tho
rame class of work will be commenced at,
Grass Valley and this city as soon as the
work is completed in Marysville, It is
thought the subscribers in this city will all
have the long distance ‘‘phones” some time
in October.
Thousands of invitations have been sent
out, includirg Governors of the United
States, the Mayors of cities and other publie
officials. :
-Contracts-have been awarded for the constructions of a number of appropriate floats,
which will be drawn by electric cars. A
brief description of the principal floats will
give sorhe idea of the magnitude of the undertaking. .
The first float will be a representation of
an immense American flag, fashioned of electric lights of appropriate “colors, In the
foreground there will be an American eagle,
mounted on a shield, On this Aoat there
will also be a representative of the historical
Bear flag, piles of cannon balls, continental
guards and kindred features.
The second float will represent California,
There will be two figures indicative of the}
State, and one of Sacramento, with altendants. It is promised that this will bea
splendid work of art.
Float No. 3 will be entitled ‘‘Fruits and
Flowers.’ Beneath an illuminated canopy

The fifth float has been placed at the dis~

credit to that great Sacramento industry.
In addition to the floats there will be
constructed, at different points, immense
electric.arches. At the foot of K street, the
thoroughfare leading from the depot, a great
arch will span the street, bearing thereon,
in large electric letters, the word ‘““WelMcSherry in Trouble.

Bright Prospects Evidently in Store For
That Little Mountain Town.
News of a very encouraging nature has
for some time past been coming from the
diregtion of North San Juan regarding the
future prospects of that section, and unless
all sigus fail the once almost inanimate
mining town will again be the hustling,
bustling burg it was years ago, when it was
the rendezvous of al] persons, moneyed and
otherwise, who bad interests within a radius
of miles of the town. Since the cessation
of hydraulic mining its decline has been
still and steady until now it is but the shade
of its former self, as the saying is, But
San Juan with its resources is bound to
come up again, Development is all that is
needed and this is now taking place to a
certain extent, That section of country
abounds in quartz ledges, but little attention has.been paid to them by residents
theréabouts, excepting a very few instances.
Strikes have recently been made in a number of claims, some of which were rich and
all of which were gratifying to the owners.
‘Tne attention of capitalists and men of
means from below has been attracted to
the little mountain town and it is now no
rare sight to notice on the registers of the
hotels of this city the name of Mr. So-andSo, a prominent mining man: from such-andsuch a place, en route to North San Juan,
A few mining deals of considerable importance are now on the tapis and these’ will
undoubtedly be but the prelude to more
which. will surely follow. The value of
réal estate has increased there to a considerable degree and“ it is said when the market
price of real estate goes up in a town it
bodes no ill for the place.

TueRE is more Catarrh in this ‘section of
the country than all other diseases put together, and until the last few years wag
supposed to be incurable. For a great many
years doctors pronounced it a” local disease,
and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment,
pronounced it incurable, Science has proven
catarrh to be a constitutional treatment,
Hall’s Catarrh Cure,‘ manufactured by F, J.
Cheney & Co., Toledo, Ohio, is the only
constitutional cure on the market, Jt is
taken internally in doses from 10 drops to a
teaspoonful, It-acts directly on the blood
and mucous surfaces of the system, They
offer ‘one hundred dollara for any case it

A Splendid Show.
Denver Times, July 12, 1895: The Wallace circus is decidedly more satisfying in an
amusement sense than the Syndicate show
which recently visited this city, and is also
much more extensive. A completely
equipped menagerie, new tents, new animal
cages, and well cared for live stock add to
its attractiveness, The show carries 800
horses, and has a force of 800 people, .The .
latter, with the exception of the performers,
practically live on the grounds, sleeping
tents, dining tents, and the best accommodations being provided. The main tent,
with a seating capacity of nearly 12,000, is
one of the largest tents ever brought here for
acircus, The usual parade, without which
any circus is incomplete, occurred at noon
to-day, and was witnessed by thousands on
the crowed-lined sidewalks, The parade
was much more interesting than is usually
offered by circus managers, and was an evidence of promising things to occur under the
big tent.
