Officers Elected and Speeches Made at Last Night's Meeting--The Club to be
es Uniformed ana to Hold Weekly Meetings.
Never before did a political club begin work in Nevada City under quite such
favorable auspices as did: the McKinley & Hobart; Club that was organized at
this city last evening. Never before did one in the. town have so many preliminary signers (upwards of two hundred) to its membership roll, and never
in all the campaigns that have gone did the skirmishers show more enthusiasm,
earnestness and sagacity in making ready for the fight. Business men, lawyers,
miners, doctors, printers, farmers and men of ‘about every other occupation
that is followed hereabout assembled to the number of sixty or more in Odd
Fellows banquet hall. The majority of them were what might be called young
men, and not a few who were there will cast their first Presidential vote on the
crowd a good representation of the grizzled stalwarts who have marched in the
van of every Republican procession here since the good old days of the Tan' A$ 8:30 o'clock chairman. Nat. P. Brown of the’ County Central Committee
called the meeting to order and stated its purposes.
The organization was then proceeded with by the election of the following
. officers:
F. J. Dennis
Theforegoing beard of cfficers were chosen as the Executive Committee,
The President and Secretary were requested to submit to the next meeting a
set. of by-laws and rules of order.
The appointment of a committee to solicit membership,
members from each voting precinct in the township, was authorized.
in obtaining the long list of members which the club inaugurates its work with.
Stirring impromptu addresses were made by L. 8. Calkins, Hugh Marchie, A.
quently interrupted by applause.
TRANSCRIPT editorial rooms a good supply of campaign literature for free distribution, and he urged the members to assist in its dissemination.
It was ordered that four life-size portraits of McKinley be framed.
Three cheers were given for the Republican national ticket and platform,
and the meeting then adjourned till next Wednesday evening. Meetings will
be held once a week until election day. The best: of speakers will be secured
uniformed and drilled, and will participate in the Republican parades of tke
campaign. : *
