BROWN & Sane:
Orchard Springs This Summer.
° Orchard Springs, Dr. Pashek’s new
arrow Gauge Railroad half s mile belew Chicago Park station, ‘is already
anestabiished success. Although this
4s the first year, it has been crowded
from the opening of the season with
geekers after health, rest and pleasure,
as many as fifty guests being accommodated at a time.
The present buildings include the
main hotel of some twenty rooms with .
hot and cold water throughout, and a
cabins, summer houses, etc. situated
in the midst of a husdred acres of land>
that is being brought under a high
state of cultivation. A large area bas
been devoted to landscape gardening;
being laid oat with walks, drives, fouutains, etc. Palms, oleanders, -camellias and other tender ornamental
plants and shrubs, ficurish in profasion. This entrancing garden spot is
within'half a mile of one of the most
rugged and picturesque belts of the
Greenhorn.Canyon country through
which trails have been opened for
miles. There are beautiful drives and:
trails in all directions, and good fisbing within two.miles. The ciimate of
that region is of course almost perfect,
being temperate at all seasons, and it
is a year-around resort.. This sammer
the visitors have mostly been--from
Southern Oalifornia, Arizona, Mexico
and the seacoast, witha large sprinkling of people from the valleys of the
Sacramento and San Joaquin. Thé
winter patronage is mainly derived
from Eastern tourists.
By next summer ‘Dr. Pashek will
have a larger and more pretertions
hotel constracted near the present ona,
and will then be able to accommodate
150 or more visitors. The new building will be of modern and ornamental
architecture and wilk contain something like 100 rooms, many of them en
suite. He is spending thousands of
dollars and will in a short time have
one of the leading mountain resorts in
the State.

Must Sign Only in Open Board.
State Superintendent of Pablic In. struction Kirk hae issued an order te
the effect that orders for supplies, and
other demands upon the funds of a
school district, must be made at a
meeting of the Board of School Trasi tees of such district, and it is illegal to
get the signatures of Trustees to an
order outside of a meeting of the Board.
‘The reason for this order is that it
bas been the practice of book agents
to see Trustees individually and talk
. them into purchasing books upon the
representation that they ere needed,
. and the other members of the Beard
. are favorable tothe purchase. In this
. way, it is said, a great many unneces. sary books have been purchased, and
the fands of school districts have been
. wasted.
