Ready Taken to a Hospital.
H. E. Dikeman, a son of 8S. H. Dikeman, a well known resident of Berkeley was taken to the receiving hospital
at Berkeley yesterday by Deputy Sheriff Striker and Deputy Sheriff Taylor
to be examined on a charge of insanity
preferred by H. Waldo Dikeman, his
brother. It was feared that the man
would cause some trouble and so two
deputy sheriffs were sent for him.
However he made no resistance, According to the statement of the man’s
brother, he has been gradually becoming insane during the last six years.
He is a graduate of the U. C., class of
’85, and was connected with the physical laboratory under Professor John
Le Conte until ’88. Of late according
to his: brother, Dikeman has become
possessed of delusions. His mental
trouble is regarded as partially hereditary aud ‘partiy due to overstudy,; He’
was also when a boy struck a severe
blow on the head with a baseball bat.
The Dikeman family were formerly
residents of Rough and Ready, this
county, ‘and removed to Berkeley a few
years ago.
