A day or twe ago a correspondent of the TRANSCRIPT suggested that the mineral cup and gold medal, won by this county at the Midwinter Fair, be brought to this city and formally presented to the Board of Supervisors at the Pavilion next week. The proposition seems to meet with favor. The Tidings says : To the Transcript’s proposition. we will state that the Midwinter Fair Commissioners think favorably of the suggestion and the cup will probably be presented to the Supervisors on the night of the annual oration. In regard to the medal we will say that it is notin Grass Valley or anywhere else, as it has not yet been manufactured. ‘The Telegraph says: The proposition from the Nevada Transcript is hailed with favor. It would be a good act to have the cup presented to the Supervisors on some evening during the fair and .as_we now understand that McGlashan that night would be a good time to present the cup. As far‘as the gold medal is concerned it has not been received as yet. 2 2 @o : In the Deaths of Misery. This year there will be introduced into the California schools a new series of readera which will displace that which is now in use. The new series will contain five books instead of the three of the present series. It is anticipated that there will be some trouble in making the new series fit iu the present course of study, The suggestion is that the first and second readers of the new series take the place of the first reader of the old; the third and fourth of the new take the place of the second in the old, and the fifth in the new take the place of the third in the old ™ Social at Silya’s Hall.
