From Its Loss,
Last evening’s Oakland Enquirer
says: Oolonel Park Henshaw of the
Eighth Regiment has been quite ill for
the past two or three days and has not
been seen outside of his tent. It is
‘now said :that the commander has
passed throngh an experience that has
not only weakened him terribly but
nearly cost him his-life.
Ovlonel Henshaw is subject to vertigo
and has beet bled from. time to time
during the past few years. He complained of dizziness a few days agoand
requested Dr. Yost to relieve his condition. Dr. Yost was very loth to do so,
but finally consented and performed
the operation. a
When enough blood had been removed Surgeon Yost concluded to take
no more bat Colonel Henshaw insisted
on bis continuing, and mach against
his more experienced judgment, Dr.
Yost did so. :
Suddenly Oolonel Henshaw gave signs
of great weakness and fainted. Then
followed a few hours of great anxiety
for Dr. Yost, who feared for the worst.
Colonel Henshaw finally rallied, however, and is now rapidly gaining
strength. :

We tender our sincere thanks to-Drs.

our son Charles.

The Jockey Club officers have received. word from horsemen below that
some of the fastest borses in the State

In view of this fact it is probable that
a change will be made in the class of

fire to a point where it could do no

Bota.
Quite. an excitement was created
about 8 o’clock Monday night by the
alarm of fire. The fire laddies respoiided promptly, but happily their:
assistance was not necessary. The fire
started at the home of General ©. F,
McGlashan. The children were studying about a table. and one of the
smaller ones dropped a lead pencil iuto
the chimney. In endeavoring to get it
ont the lamp was overturned and fell
upon the floor, starting quite ablaze.
With rare presence of mind Earl picked
up the lamp and threw it into the yard
and* Mrs. McGlashan smothered the
flames with a.rug. Thus was averted
what might have been under other circumstances a disastrous conflagration.
