At their weekly meeting yesterday “afternoon the Jockey Clab awarded . privileges as follows for next week's races: Bar;-Maitland & Co.; lunch]. counter, Frank Mainhart; hay and feed, E. 8. Mainhart; pool selling, Harry Daniels; peanuts, Joe Cohn. Col. J. BE. Stearns, E. J. Rector, Henry Lana, W. G. Rich sds, George Fietcher and George Mainhart were appointed ab executive committee. ; A telephone is to be put in at the track. * ; On Saturday night of next week a bal-will be given at the Park, and special trains will be ran from this city and Grass Valley for the accommodation of all who wish to attend. Secretary Giffia says everything indivates that the races will be the most interesting ever seen at the Park. The speed program is about filled, and there will be a number of special events not heretofore announced, The purses are liberal, and the management will be square in every respect. Horses are arriving at the Park dail y from below, and among them are some of the fastest trotters and runners on the coast. Itis a foregone conclusion that the races this season will: ba the fastest ever ssen hers, as a number of large special purses are to be hung up for these events and thay wiil bs warmly contested for. zy Toe Association will have another meeting next Sanlay. On the le a andl bs As OM, BERHA 1 From Its Loss, Last evening’s Oakland Enquirer says: Oolonel Park Henshaw of the Eighth Regiment has been quite ill for the past two or three days and has not been seen outside of his tent. It is ‘now said :that the commander has passed throngh an experience that has not only weakened him terribly but nearly cost him his-life. Ovlonel Henshaw is subject to vertigo and has beet bled from. time to time during the past few years. He complained of dizziness a few days agoand requested Dr. Yost to relieve his condition. Dr. Yost was very loth to do so, but finally consented and performed the operation. a When enough blood had been removed Surgeon Yost concluded to take no more bat Colonel Henshaw insisted on bis continuing, and mach against his more experienced judgment, Dr. Yost did so. : Suddenly Oolonel Henshaw gave signs of great weakness and fainted. She was getting some nails out of a box and came across a giant powder cap. She did not know what it was and picked it witha nail.
