Mae¥.Ii, Sauvee, wife of Victor Sauvee, ams. lingering illness, passed away at her fome at Blue Tent Saturday afternoon, Although her death was not unexpected; when the end came it wae a sorrowfal bome. Mrs, Sauvee was a dutifal wife and loving mother, and was held in high esteem by all her acquaintances. She was a quiet and gentile woman, and was ‘news, of her death caased profound sorrow in this community, and many eyes were wet with teare when it was learned that this good woman had -passed away. Deceased was a. native of France, and aged forty years, eight months and four days. She leaves a husband, two sons, Alexander and Frederick, and two daughters, Louise and Mary. The funeral took place from the family residence at 1:80 o’clock this afternoon, and was largely attended. Driven to Colfax. Mayor Schmitz and wife attended the ball at Armory Hall last Saturday night and enjoyed three dances. The Mayor received a telegram that he was wanted in the city, and he and hie wife were driven to Colfax by Ed. McCormick. They left here at 10:80 o'clock, and caught the train that goes through Colfax after midnight. The Mayor was loath to leave, but business demanded his presence in San Francisco, Louis Onbimus, Superintendent of Golden Gate Park, accompanied the Mayor to thie city, and returned with him. Along Trip. Dr, G. P. Reynolds, David Martin, Louis H. Jacobi and F. 8. Rolley, arrived here last evening from Alameda. They came all the way on horseback. They are going to Platt Valley in the northeastern part of the State. They stayed over in this city today. and were taken through the Champion mine by W.H. Dunlap. Left for Home. The Oalifornia Oycling Clab, which visited bere during the festivities, left on the morning train yesterday for their home in San Francisco. When going out they gave three hearty cheers for Nevada City, and said that they were never better treated in their life. They will be glad to come egain at any time. Weather Bulletin. Sr. Josep, Mo,, August 23—Last bulletin gave forecasts of disturbance to cross continent August 21 to 25, warm wave 20 to 24, cool wave 28 to 27. Next disturbance will reach Pacific coast about August 28, cross west of Rockies by close of 29. A warm wave will cross west of Rockies about Aagust 28, A Hunting Trip. Fred Searls, George ‘W. Starr and Dr, I. W. Hays are going on 8 bunting trip up into Lassen and Trinity counties. Their chief object is to get bear and other large game, bat will kill a few birds asa side iseue. Owing to illness of two of Nevadas’ baseball team, the game yesterday had tobe postponed. There was quite a crowd at the Park, and they enjoyed themselves with other amusements. Has Returned. B. 8. One of the grandest sights that Mayor Schmitz ever witnessed, was when he visited the Merrifield mine last ‘Saturday. He said the mining people treated him like a prince, and he was never more highly pleased in hie life. He viewed the new two foot ledge that was recently struck in the Merrifield, and it was something that he bad never seen before. Two ledges game togcther and.it is very ish, It is one of the best strikes ever made in the Merrifield, Telephone Serviee. The telephone repairers will complete their work in thie city about Wednesday, and will then go to Grass Valley. The boys are thoroughly in love with this town, and will anxiously await the next time the lines need repairing. Wil Form a Club. Arrangements are under way for the formation of-a cycling club in this city, and the people will soon see the cyclers wheeling through the streets. There are many bicyclists in this city, and they are enthusiastic over the idea. : Farewell Party. Saturday afternoon Mrs. John Hamilton gave a’ delightful farewell.party at her home on Main street in honor of her grandaughter, who has been vis«'\ iting here from Windsor, Sonoma county. The parlor was nicely decorated for the occasion, pink and white being the prevailing colors. Sixteen young ladies were pregent and the afternoon was most pleasantly spent in playing whiet and various other games.
