Pa THE TRANSCRIPT . Betablished Sept. 6, 1960, by Nat. P. Brown & Co. NEVADA CIty, NEVADA CO., CALIFORNIA Proprietors BROWN & CALKINS,eee AUGUST 27, 1897. MILES OF ORE. Wonderful. Discovery ofQuartz in the State of Washington.’ The following from the Olympian, published at Olympia, Washington, relates to an uncle of the ices sri brothers of this city: “J. M. Lammon of Olympia, who in company with L. W. Britto isthe fortunate discoverer of a mineral ledge of great promise.on a mountain overlooking Fish lake in the northeastern corner of Kittitas county, is jutilant over the discovery. Mr. Lammon showed the Olympian some samples of rock “from the ledge in this discovery thai certainly justify the hope that the gentlemen have struck it rich. The rock has every appearance of very rich galena with evidenves of copper. The Samples displayed are from the surfacé. The mountain side’ where the ledge is locatedis-very precipitous, sco much so that though thirty or forty locations were made on the opposite face of the mountain to the right oi the valley separating the two mountains by which it is crowned, the lefthand face was*too abrupt and jagged to entice the prospector. So not a single location was made upon it prior t« the visit of the Olympia prospectors. “After cruising a couple of weeks on the opposite mountain, finding promising ledges only to trace them’ up t« the notice of some prospector who already had located them, Mr. Lammon concluded to try scaling the opposite mountain. It stands a mile and a hali or two miles high and fifteen or twenty miles long. The prospector had nx sooner Started to scale its height thar he noticed that the formation of the mountain was such as to leave no doubt of the fact that it was truly in place. and how much that counts for can be ‘best appreciated by the niiner. It: is evidence that if a ledge is found on# mountain of this character, it is sure to possess depth, instead ofpinching out.” And the ledge was found. Mr. Lam. FRIDAY . mon says hé dare not tell how thick . : the ledge seems to be for nobody woulc believe him. He ventures the assertion, though, that it is a hundred feet thick. That is something astounding, and if Mr. Lammon believes it thicker than this we do not wonder that he does not proclaim it. The Olympians located the ledge about 1000 feet above the water level, and drove atunnel in about ten feet on the property. The showing at this depth was so promising that Mr. Lammon asserts that if it is worth $10,000 it is worthten millions, . so remarkable is the showing. “The news of the location soon spread to the opposite side of the lake and created a stampede. Among the locations to follow was one about a/ mile distant on the same face of the. mountain and apparentlyn the same ledge, by Lynch Bros., which has since been bonded to a Seattle syndicate for $100,000. That property is booked for immediate development, and if it pans ont as expected it will demonstrate that the Olympia boys have a bonanzr, for Mr. Lammon has every confidence that their location is on the center’ «f the mammoth ledge.” eo Ir seems impossible, but itis reported that-a Kentucky distillery has assigned. State pride and patronage should have come to the rescue. UNION :-: HOTEL, Tain Street, Nevada City. J. A. NORTHWAY,. PROPRIETOR Hotel Arrivals. E. O. Hall, Forest Hill, .J.
