Five or: six mea who had been imbibing a little too freely caused considerable commotion at Dutch Flat this forenoon by going out on the adjacent bills with guns and firing a number of shots, and then retarning to town with a blood-curdling story of having encountered s number of the eecaped prisoners from Folsom. They wentso far asto show a wound on one of the jokers hand, claiming that the injury had been made bya shot fired by one of the convicts. “"Phe story of the encounter spread rapidly, and the wires were kept hot in sending reports of the supposed location of the gang of desperadoes. Sheriff Keena of Auburn lost-no time in reaching the vicinity of Datch Flat with a posse, and a vigorous search was about to be instituted when the yarn was found to have been utterly falee. Foster’s puuetin, The last bulletin issued by -Prof: Foster gave forecasts of a disturbance to cross the continent July 30 to August 4, warm wave July 29 to August 2 Both of these predictions have been fulfilled to the letter, as our readers have undoubtedly noted. The prediction for the week beginning August 8d, for the Pacific Coast, is as follows: . ; A warm wave will cross west of the Rockies about August 3d, followed by acool wave which will cross west of the Rockies about August 6th. This disturbance will belong to s period of high temperatures that will include the first ten days of August. It will bring severe storms similar to thoge that occurred about the first of July. Grea heat will be experienced during the week ending August 9th, and showers bordering on that peculiar kiad miccalled *‘cloudburets.” This weather period centering about August 6'h, should be closely watched, August is agually a qniet weather month, but you should not count on this Auguet being of the usual kind, The weather centering on the 6th and 17th should be kept in mind, for it will probably be mace, up of great extremes. Another warm wave will cross weat of the Rockies about August 9th, followed by a cool wave which will arrive about the 12th. Frequent showers will S cocur, some -of them very heavy, over small areas, from the 6th to the 13tb, about the lattez date being quite cool and followed by a few days of bot dry weather,. The first half of August will average very much warmer than the last half. Frequent showers, some o! them very heavy, are expected from August 17th'to 27th, the latter date being the center of an exceedingly cool spell of weather. ° LOW RATE EXCURSIONS way ~ “THE SCENIC LINE OF TBE WCRLD To supply the popular demand for our low rate excursion : tickets, it bas been decided to place them on sale again on August 18th and 19th and 25th and 26th.
