Speaking of the highwaymen who endeavored to stand up Baxter near Watsonscared Connor's horse, and brushed up to Steve Hauser’s ville, and subsequently buggy and tried to rob Frolli, reminds us that we had a narrow escape, too, saye the Salinas Owl. We had twenty cents and three postage stamps in our pante pockets and had all day been thinking about going to Castroville, but we didn’t, and therefore missed the nen. . The fire originated in the kitchen by means of a defective flue. Neighbors were soon on hand and with the aid of pails and buckets succeeded in extinguishing the fire by throwing water on the flames diately back of the kitchen.
