Frank H. Bell Had His Shoulder Dislocated—Chris. Mallon Hurt.
Last evening about 7 o’clock Chris, Mallon, 0, O. Howard and Frank H. Bell, whe
were returning from a trip to the English
Mountain mine, met with a rather serious
accident, They had reached the top of the
Sugar Loaf grade, near this city, when the
horses turned to the right, near the water
trough, and one of the hind wheels went off
the edge of the road where a culvert crosses.
At the same time the forward wheels went
into a ‘‘chuck hole,” and the sudden jar
threw the driver, Chris. Mallon, over the
dashboard and between the horses.This
frightened the horses and they started tu
ran down the hill. me
‘Two wheels passed over Mallon, who was
badly bruised about the body and had
his face out also. As the lines were drag_ ging on the ground there was no chance of
stopping the team, so Bell and Howard
jumped from the rockaway. The former
struck upon his head and shoulder, causing
. the dislocation of his shoulder. Mr. Howard landed squarely on his feet and escaped
nnhurt. It was at first feated that Mr.
Mallon had sustained very serious injuries,
as he was hardly able to. walk without the
assistance of his comrades, who accompaalso attended Mr, Mallon, ‘The injured
will soon be all right.
The team, which belongs to James Hennessey, ran to the stable on Broad street,
av they were passing O. E. Ashburn’s residence on upper West Broad street. One of
the wheels was thus separated from th:
vehicle, which from that point on went
bumping and dragging down the street,
the noise and clatter causing people to run
from houses and stores to learn the cause.
Tne runaway caused considerable excitement and for awhile conjectures were rife ac
to what had happened to the gentlemen

Sacramento, December 11.—Dana. Perparalysis, He has his senses, and it is not
thonght that his mind will be affected. The
left leg and arm are affected. He suffered
the stroke while in the Grand Hotel, in San

wife, who was in this city, was summoned,
and Dr, Gardener, the railroad’s chief surgeon

An examination shows that the Librarian’s
left leg was touched with paralysis and the
left arm slightly so. ‘The doctors expressed
the belief that the attack would not result
in Mr. Perkins’ death, and that ultimately,
with care and rest, he would partially recover
the use of his leg.
To-night the stricken man was removed to
his home in this city. Mr. Perkins is a
very large man, He is about six feet five
in height. and weighs nearly three hundred
pounds. Owing to the fact that he cannct
