GRUBL'Y 10 ANIMALS.
A Number of Disgracefal Cases Reported
at Grass Valley.
“The Telegraph of last evening says:
‘Banner Hill were delivering wood in
Grass Valley and when going up Bean
street from School street, the load was
too much for one of the teams and the’
consequence was the horses could not
pull the load up the hill. The driver.
of one of the teams was about to get a,
club of wood to beat the horses when
Dan Luddington interferred and put a
stop to the proceedings ‘intorming the
owner of the team that he would have
him arrested if he beat the animals.
Some hot words passed between the
men but Mr. Luddington stayed there
about an hour and saw ee was
no beating done, and then the owner
of the team lightened his loud and the
horses were able to haul the balance.
The driver remarked he would beat the
horses when he got out of town but he
had to be a little carefal when in Grass
Valley. Such brutes should never. be
allowed to own ahorse. They expect,
a team to haul as great a load upa
heavy grade as on level ground. We
know'the names of the parties and a
public and their names published.
Another case came to our notice today in which a horse got stubborn and
refused to go. The party in charge of
the horse tied arope around its neck
and tried to pull the horse along. The
horse fell, but the pulling process continued and as a result the horse was
almost choked to death and it bled
profusely. This time the party is a
public official of this town and if we
can get our informant to substantiate
what he says we will have the official
looked after.
It is time there was a society for the A
prevention of cruelty to animals formed
here. There are cases of cruelty come
to our notice almost every day. Horses
are tied to posts and left to stand in
the wet and cold for hours. Some
times the officers take care of them, but
they cannot be on the watch. all the
time. A society formed for this purpose: will do much to’ abolish this
cruelty.
