from San Francisco Saturday evening.
Mr. Brown represented Nevada county

Dr. W. H. Wentworth and wife of
Sacramento and Miss Gnssie Wentworth, a teacher in the public schools
of San Francisco, arrived here Saturday
evening, being summoned by the critical condition of their father.Julian Barnes of Chicago, of the Sierra Gold Mining Company which suspended operations a few months ago at
its mine near Downieville, is here. It
is expected that the company will soon
straighten up its financial affairs and
resume the development of the property.

Lester Doll Breathe Their Last.
The funeral will; take place from the
family residence at 2 o’clock next
was born in Parsonfield York county,
Maine, in 1818, and in 1827 went to New
Hampshire. In the latter State he
taught schoél when & young man. In
1844 he went to. Massachusetts where
he was engaged in merchandising and
had amachine shop. In 1852 he came
to California and in 1853 settled at fhis
‘city, and was until late years mining,
iumberitg and farming. In 1858 he
married Myra 8. Bradford, a native of
Maine, who survives him, as do also
one daughter and a son, He was a
Deputy United States Revenue Colleetor in 1871-72. Mr. Wentworth was
a man of intelligence and integrity and
was highly regarded in the community
where he had lived so long.
Finis BE. Baker, who came to Nevada
county in the early fifties and was for
many years a miner at Blue Tent, died
suddenly shortly before ten o’clock
this morning at the Spanish mine where
he has been employed as watchman.
While preparing his breakfast he was
seized with acute pains in the back and
became helpless. Dr. Hunt was sent
for but the old man was dead before
the physician could get there. The
cause of death was aneurism ,or the
bursting of a blood vessel. On several
occasions previously he bad suffered
from milder attacks of the same char-.
acter. He was a man of spotless character and a good citizen. He was born
in Illinois sixty years ago, and was a
widower. One: daughtér and several
step-daugbters survive him. They are
Mrs. O. D. Campbell, Mrs. Ed. Hager,
Mrs. F. P. Williams, Mrs. Merrow and
Mrs. Henry Fuller, all of this township.
