Carrie Radolph’s Latest Husband Accuses}. Cail on Ed: Schmidt when you want
Her of Bigamy and Theft. anything in the tobacco line, tf
If her fourth husband. doesn’t lie—
the chances are he does—the actress
and elocutionist known as Oarrie
Radolph, whose father used to keep a
little drugstore on Broad street in this
city, and whose mother was a photographer, is a bigamist and a thief, From
here the family moved to Sacramento.
Some years ago she returned here and
gave a dramatic reading. About the
same time aman named F.S. Gould,
said to be the. divorced. first hustinld
of Carrie, lived here for several months
with a woman he had subsequently
married. They had with them two
children said to be his first wife’s.
Gould was interested in some mining
process: Of late years local residents
have not heard anything of the druggist’s plump and pretty. daughter, excepting occasional rumors which would
straggle in to the-effect that she was
“flying high.” Yesterday’s San Francisco Examiner however hag, a sensational article concerning her. It says:
M.C. Yerby, of Brooklyn, New York,
has sent ont a circular letter to the
effect that his wife, who was Caroline
Rudolph, left their home at 10 St. Andrews’ Place, Brooklyn, taking money,
bric a-brac and pictures, and that the
woman is wanted for bigamy in Jersey
City and for grand larceny in Brooklyn.
Tae circular also gives the nam¢s
and addresses of three former husbands, and says. the woman is well
known in‘San Francisco as a dramatic
reader and actress.
Mr. Yerby was interviewed at his
Brooklyn address by an Examiner
correspondent. He refused to give any
details of the alleged misdemeanors of
Mrs, Yerby, but promised to do some
talking later on. Yerby said the first
husband, Mr. Gould, with two children,
i at 2248 Briggs avenue, Alameda
Among other things the description of
Mrs, Yerby declares that she is “well
educated” and a “rapid walker.”
“I was divorced from my wife eight
“years ago,” Mr. Gould of Alamed,a said.
“Since that time_she—has been inthe
East and I have not followed her life
there. Six months ago she left her
Brooklyn home and came to Alameda
to see our two children: I do not know
whether or. not.there--is-eny thing in
the charges made by Yerby. I understand that Mrs. Yerby is now on her
’ way to Ualifornia.”
F.tzsimmons is Free.
Pat. Fitzsimmons, who has been serving 55 days in the county jail for contempt of court, was turned loose. today.
He was a well-behaved prisoner, but
comes out of the bastile as rambunctious as when he went in. He says
that the martyrs of bible times were
not in it with him.
Returning to Faderland,
Emil Von Schower, said to be a real
live baron, left here today for Vienna,
Austria, from whence he came to
America fourteen years ago. Mr. Von
Schower is chemist by profession, but‘
for the last. year has been studying
gold amalgamating at the Texas mine

NEW counry ial OPPOSED,
The Improvement,
Blank petitions to the County Super
visors, urging them to reconsider their
determination to build a new county
jail at the corner of Pine and York
Streets, were today sent throughout the
‘county by residents of: this city, and
they will be generally circulated for the
presented to the Board during the first
week in January. The petition reads
as follows:
“To the Honorable the Board of Su,
pervisors of Nevada county, Oal:” Gen.
tlemen: We, the undersigned citizens
and tax-payers of the County of Nevada, respectfully represent: That we
bave learned that your Honorable
Board have resolved to construct a new
jail building at Nevada City at a cost of
about $15,000.
“Owing to the existence of the following facts, to-wit: That our principal
industry is badly crippled in some of
its branches; that our present tax rate
is so high that all taxpayers are bardened thereby; that our county business has, for-more than“ twenty’ years
last past; been conducted without detriment to any of its toterests or
material inconvenience to any of its
officers in the performance of their
now have; and as the county now
owns a building on Broad street, Ne-. ¥
vada City, one half of which it rents, we
are of the opinion that there is no sufficient reason why the taxpayers should
be obliged to pay additional taxes for
the building of the jail proposed,
“Our present county buildings are in
good condition and each of the county
officers: are well housed. While our
present jail is not the best, it has
served the county as such for many
years and when the number of inmates
were more numerous than now. For
the above reasons we protest against
building the new jail as proposed by
your Honorable Board, If it isdeemed
desirable to further increase the burof the tax-payers, at least submit the
question of such increase to the
voters.”
