DEATH OF H.W. MOORE. A Well Known Pioneer Resident of Nevada County. H. M. Moore, father of BE. B. Moore, proprietor of the Sutier Hotel at Sutter Creek, recently died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. Harris, in San deceased was a native of New York and came to California in 1852 and settled at Moore’s Flat, which town. was named after ‘him. Mrs. Moore was the first ‘white woman settler of that historical mining camp. Mr. Moore was prominently “identified with Democratic politics in Nevada county for many years and was at one time a candidate for County Judge, being defeated by David Beiden for that position by one vote. Hoe was admitted to the bar in New York and also in this State, although he never took up the practice of law as a profession. He kept-a hotel in Moore’s Flat and was justice of the peace a number of years. He also resided in Nevada City for awhile with his family. in 1869 Mr. Moore settled in Copperopolis, Calaveras county, and engaged in the hotel business and has since resided there. ' His wife died at that place fourteen years ago. A Plan to Extend the Washington Line te That Place. The projectors of the telephone line from this city to Washington propose to put it through by the way of Blue Tent and Relief Hill, thus keeping below the deep snow line and at the same time securing financial aid from those localities. ‘They estimate that this route will be from 16 to 17 miles long and that the total cost of construction will not exceed $500, of which amount some $400 is already assured. It is believed the line will be continued through to Sierra City, a distance of 2214 miles further. It would thus pass the California mine and Graniteville, which are respectively 61¢ and 10% miles above Washington, and from Graniteville along the 12 mile ‘trail to Sierra City. The people of all the towns along the route will contribute liberally towards the necessary fund. Downtievilie Messenger items. Mrs. W. T. Luther is now located at Roseburg,.Oregon, where she and Mrs. Benjamin, (nee Rebecca Langton) are conducting a candy kitchen. Jesse C.
