Thecause of her death was aneurism of the aorta. Mrs. Curnow was born. in Cornwall, England, on February 6th, 1841, and . had lived here. for many years. She was much thought of for her numerous good traits of character. Her husband, Thomas Curnow, died in June, 1894, of miners’ consumption. Rev. William Curnow, 8 Methodist preacher at Sonora, is her son, and her twelve year old boy George lived with his mother. Miss Annie Carnow, her only daughter, lives with the family of Wm: H. Crawford. The funeral wlll take place Monday from the Methodist church, but the bour has not yet been dbtermined upon, * ae one A Russian shopkeeper recently posted the following announcement in front of his place of business. “The reason why Ihavehitherto been unable to sell my goods so much cheaper than anybody else is that Iam a bachelor, and do not need ‘to make profit for the maintenance of a wife and children. It is nuw my duty to inform the public that this advantage will shortly be withdrawn from them; as I am about to be married. They will, therefore, do well to make their purchases at once at the old rate.” 2 e@e > TuHE Sierra Railroad is béing rapidly extended from Jamestown to Sonora, the county seat of Tuolumne County, and it is expected that the extension will be ready for traffic soom after the opening of the new year. A considerable increase in the rate of mining development and a decrease in the cost of mining oporations should follow.
