. were So royally entertained, He is the

There was a Christmas tree out at.
the Blue Tent schoolhouse last evening
for the entertainment of the children
and Perry. Arbogast, a well-known
young man, who was personating Santa
Claus, had a narrow escape from being
incinerated. He was attired in the
ron saint: \He had on a great wig and
was covered with the same fluffy magifts to the merry throng, when sud:
denly thé trimming on his coat came
dles. In a moment: he was a mass of
flames. The most intense excitement
prevailed. Women and __ children
screamed and the men in the audience
Sprang to his assistance. The young
‘taan preserved his presence of mind,
ut his efforts to put out the fire were
unavailing and a serious catastrophe
seemed imminent. Then some of the
men pulled off their coats and wrapping
them about him soon had the fire
smothered. Mr. Arbogast’s. eyebrows
and hair were singed, and~it is indeed
fortunate that he escaped without any
more serious injuries.
BRIM FULL OF FUN,
Seats For Monday Night's Show In DeIand at Foley's.
In speaking of that farcical cotiedy,
“Two Married Men,” the Salem, Oregon, Statesman of December 9th, says :
“George R. Edeson’s farce comedy,
‘Two Married Men,’ was presented at
the Reed last evening to a large house.
The dbject of the performance, ‘just to
make you laugh,’ was certainly accomplished by the company inits portrayal
of the play, which abounds in ludicrous
situations from start to finish. The
specialties introduced during the three
acts, which are brim full of fun, are all
good. The company is an exceptionally
strong one, and the performance numbers amiong the best of the farce-comedies ever seen in this city. Patton
Bros, are to be congratulated upon securing such splendid attractions for
the theatre-going public of Salem.” ~
The company will appear here next
Monday evening. The prices will ba
popular, 50.and @\oonts Seats are
now on sale at Foley’§ and are going
well.
