Fred Searls bas gone to San Francisco to attend today’s meeting of. the State Debris Commission. George ard Albert Keller of the Plunbago mine are here visiting their g:andmother, Mrs. John McCarthy. Chief Engineer Hancock of the Electric Power Company returaed Saturday night from San Francisco. Photographer John Swart returned Saturday night from Placer couriy to spend Christmas with his family, Thomas Veale of Grass Valley has returned from Sierra county and with his wife spent Christmas at this city. Mrs. James Tyrrelland her daughter, Miss Lucy, are visiting the former's daughter t ‘Truckee, Mrs. F.M. Rutherford. J. G. Bowerman returned Sunday to ‘Truckee where he has been spending most of his time lately with his daughter, Mrs. McNeeley. George Osterman, blacksmith at the Gold Bluff mine above Downieville, is spending the Christmas season with his family at this city. Newbert and Miss Ella Foreman, two well-known residents of Smarisville, were married Sunday in Marysville and-went to fan Francisco ou their wedding tonr. Mrs. Ben McOormack, teacher of the Pleasant Valley school, Miss May Buffington, teacher at North Bloomfiel« and Miss Jessie Organ, teacher at Overton, are here to spend the holidays. Dr. Du Milieu, Ed Dobbie and Phil Cummins bad a royal feast at North Bloomfield Saturday night as a seadoff to the Doctor and Mr. Dobbie who have been here enjoying Christmas. Horace J. Kennedy, acontractor and builder who formerly resided at this city but has been at Browns Valley for a year past employed by a mining company, returned to the Valley today after spending Christmas here. miatmneneell For Sweet Charity’s Sake. The Christmas observance of the Kuights Templar took place yesterday morning at 9 o’clock in the asylum of Nevada Commandery, No. 6, corner of Commercial and Pine streets. In accordance with instructions issued by the committee appointed at the lust Grand Encampment the Sir Knights drank a toast to Most Eminent Grand Master Reuben Hedly Lioyd. Stephen Berry, chairman of the committee, recently sent a communication. from Portland, Maine, as follows: “Will you join in these sentiments on Monday, December the 25th, and will you extead the invitation to your . command, as well as to all Templars and’ their friends, wheresoever dispersed, on land or on sea.” hen follows the toast, which in the United States was as follows: “To the Most Eminent Grand Master, Reuben Hedley Lloyd: May the Lord send him all the blessings which his faithfal. Knights «wish -him’on -this merry Christmas day.” © The toast was recited by Charles H. ‘Eddy, Nevada Commandery, and after it has been drunk in sparkling wine the following response was delivered for Mr. Lloyd. a “Sir Knights: May He, who provides all things, endow you with wisdom and power’ to illustrate in your lives and conduct the principles taught by Him, whose advent this-commemorates.” ‘Throughout the jurisdiction at exactly the same moment all Sir Knights drank the same toast. Addresses were delivered by Past Grand Master E. M. Preston, Commander 0. H. Eddy, Past Commander J. §. McBride, Generalissimo W. J. Rogers, Past Commander Fred Searls, Past Commander Theodore Wilhelm, and Sir Knights W.D. Long, F. L. Arbogast, C. W. Chapman and ©. H. Whitten, A vocal solo by Sir Knight Opie was one of the attractions. In conclusion all of the. Sir Knights joined in singing “Auld Lang Syne.” A Score Thav’s Hard To Beat. The annual target shoot of Company C for the company medal began at Sutton Range yesterday, nineteen men participating. Sergeant Clarence’ Organ has the higbest score to date, hay‘Ing made 62 out of a possible 75. There were several fights Saturday and Sunday nights, but as the officers were not around and there have been no complaints filed by citizens there were No arrests, Chris Snyder, who got a five cent drink in Chiuatown last night, refused to pay for it, kicked up a row and was lodged in jail, was turned loose this morniug by Justice Green. who first gave him a lectuia, however. Yesterday morning R. H. Vincent and Miss Mary Pingree were married and last night George Reed of Los Angeles and Miss Ethel Alderman were made husband and wife.
