Thus far the present season has not been be appreherd: river. -The snow that has of late fallen in that section damaged the ice to such ap extent that much of it had to be sluiced ont of the ponds, a:lowed to remain, tends to soften the ice and cause it to become rotten, in which con. and rheumatic trouble and devility, dition it is unmarketable and consequently oo worthless. The companies endeavor te scrapers after each fall of snow, but it 422-2 often happens that the snow piles up se fast that it is impossible to keep the ponds clear, As long as the ice is strong enough, horses are attached to the scrapers, but it sometimes happens that the ice will not bear up horses, in which event the scraping is done by men. ~ Our correspondent at Floriston writes us that the ice companies in that vicinity have had a hard time fighting the snow.
