PUBLIC INSTALLATION,
—
Will Install on January 6th.
Union Encampment of Odd Fellows of
Grass Valley will have a public installation
of officers on Saturday evening, January 6,
1894. After the installation a banquet will
be served to the members ‘of the Encampment, An invitation to attend both the
installation and the banquet has been received by Mistletoe Kucampment of this
city, and should the weather be favorable
quite a large delegation will go down ™
On Monday evening, January 22d, the Madge A.
officers of Mistletoe Encampment of this
city will be installed. A grand banquet
will follow the installation. The members
of Union Encampment have been invited to
attend and there will no doubt be quite a
number present.
These installations take place at a season
when the severity of the weather often deters many of the ‘old stiffs” from making
the trip. Were it not for this fact the
number of visitors from sister lodges would
be much larger and the sociability of these
meetings thereby. increased,

Will Be a Success,
W. F. Prisk of the Gragg Valley Union
is devoting his whole time in getting the
matter together for his ten-thousand special
edition for the Midwluter Fair. Everybody should give him a helping hand as
that edition will do Nevada county more
real good than any advertising that was
ever done for this section, The merchants
of Nevada City and Grass Valley, and in
fact every other towo, should ‘show their
appreciation of the enterprise by advertising liberally in the paper.

Christened In the Ferris Wheel.
One of the-last occurrences on the Ferris wheel was the christening of two children of Mr. ©. B. Rhodes of Chicago on
the last day of the fair, It was done
without the knowledge of the company,
which steadfastly protested against such
notoriety. The mother carried a chris.
tening bow! wrapped in paper and her
2-year-old boy. A young woman took up
8 bottle of water in a shopping bag and
bore the 8-month-old girl in her arms,
and the officiating reverend gentleman,
Dr. D. F. ‘Fox of Chicago, for once discreetly concealed his Bible in his overcoat pocket, Thus they passed the unsuspecting guard. The small boy was
christened Harold Wheeler Rhodes as the
car reached the top on her first trip, The
name of Ferris Rhodes was bestowed
upon the girl as the wheel reached the
turn on the second trip.—Chicago Letter,
A Fatal Scare.
