CONCERT AT GRASS VALLEY.
uittle Red Riding Hood Well Presented
By Thirty Children, —
The entertainment given by Mrs. H. G.
‘Parsons and her pupils, at Grass ‘Valley
last evening, was a complete success. There
was-a large attendance, including quite a
pumber trom this city. The operetta of
“Little Red Riding Hood” was presented,
thirty children taking part. ‘Little Beatrice
Kidder, adopted daughter of Hon, John F.
Kidder, sustained the character of . Read
Riding Hood in a very admirable manner,
and received much praise from the auditors,
The duet by Ethel Howard and Libbie Angove is also highly spoken of, In fact all
the little‘people acquitted themselves in a
very creditable manner. i
The vocal solo, Robert Le Diuble,” by
Miss Annie Webber of this city, is credited
with being one of the best numbers on the
program. Louis Brinkman of this city also
gave a pleasing vocal solo, and Miss Marie
Deal and Charles Leavitt rendered a guitar
duet that was well received._Mrs. L. 5S.
Calkins acted as-accompanist tor the Nevada

The Proposed Amendment to the State
Constitution.
In March, 195, the Legislature of this
State passed a resolution to submit to the
voters at the next general election (in November, 1896), an amendment to the State
Constitution, to be designated on the ballots as the Eleventh, which, if carried by
a majority vote, will give suffrage to women
upon equal terms with men, Some of the
most prominent men and women throughout the State who believe in the justice of
woman suffrage, and that the best interests
of society can only be upheld by the united
vote of men and women, have become inba’)
tereated in doing all possible to inform the
public of the proposed change in the’ Constitution, and in working. for it, For this
reason the Amendment Campaign Associa~
tion, with Mrs, Sarah fs. Cooper as President,'was organized as, the outgrowth of
the Woman's Congress of last spring. Later,
at the annual meeting of the State Sutlrage
Association,’ Mrs. Ellen C, Sargent, was
elected President of that body. The
Boards of Directors of these two assocta~
tions voted to form a Joint Campaign Committee, and began-at once to outline a plan
of work. Under their auspices‘Rev. Anna
H. Shaw came out from the East near the
end of November to give a course of lectures,
