to the Baker City National Bank, Dec. 25th,
the usual monthly gold output from that
valuable property. The weekly. Redrock

words the White Swan is turning out bullion at the rate of $500 per day. The ore

The ’49 Camp at the Midwinter Fair
Offers Great Inducements. SALE will commence
From recent developments we are led to
believe that the 49 Camp at the Midwinter
Fair will not be what many people had ex=
pected from reading the first announcements, The circular letters sent out to the
newspapers soliciting information of old
miners who would be willing to join the
camp, stated that the miners would be turnished board and room and would only be

required to‘be in camp six hours each day,
It was supposed, of course, that they would
work about the camp and show as nearly as
possible life in tie mines in early days, but
it was not expected that each man would
have to do his own cooking three times a
day, in addition to the other work, for the
glorious privilege of being a member of the
camp. But this it seems is what the managers intend. An advertisement in one of
the city papers says twenty old miners are
wanted to join the camp. Grub and cabins
will be furnished, but each man must bring
his own blankets and do his own cooking.
Under this arrangement we don’t believe
many typical éarly-day miners will go into
‘camp and the result will be that many of
those who accept the propesition will be
ifellows who never saw a placer mine and
can’t tell gold from mica.
Ifthe ’49 Camp is to be a side show it
is very presumptuous on the part of the
projectors to think that they can secure
their actors at such a small salary, and have
the latter furnish their own wardrobes besides. Ifthe camp is to be a part and
parcel of the Midwinter Fair proper, then
we must say that the ‘ skimpy,” penurious
manner in which the thing seems to be
managed is in striking contrast to the’ gen‘erous customs of the old miners they seem
to want so badly. The 49 Camp can be
made a telling feature of the exposition,
but not without a reasonable expenditure,
