It Will Not Be Opened As First Contemplated. It has been apparent for some time that the Midwinter Fair could not be in a complete state of readiness by the Ist of January, not only because it had so far outgrown the original plans, but because of the vexatious but unavoidable delay in the transmission. of exhibits frim the East. Under such circumstances the executive committee has done the right and proper thing and decided to postpone the opening of the Exposition, There will be some interesting informal exercises at the grounds on New Year's day, and a band of music will be in attendance, but there will be nothing in the nature of a formal opening. : The Chronicle says in the meantime— that is, until the Exposition is regularly declared open—the price of admission to the grounds ne to be twenty-five cents, as at presen and no ene can think for a moment that N is money thrown away to pay aquarter of a dollar to see what has ‘been done and what is being done to transform Concert Valley and its environs into the City of Palins, It is not possible te name the precise day en which the Midwinter Fair will be declared in readiness for visitors, for there are too many chances to be taken and contingencies to be determined, but it is safe to say that it will be on or about the 20th of January, and if there bea delay of only three weeks no one can reasonably complain. The increase in the arera of the Fair, from forty acres to one hundred ani sixty, is in iteelf a more than sufficient excuse for post— poning the opening three weeks. The time which will elapse between January Ist and the opening of the Fair will be a busy one, and oné full of interest to all who like to see things grow. The installation of exhibits will go on without a moment’s cessation; the concessionnaires, or many of. them, will be ready for business, and the.whole scene will be one of bustling activity. Then the fruit succeeds the blossom, and the Midwinter Fair shines out in its perfected splendor and magnificence, those who have waite, maybe unwillingly, will acknowledge the wisdom and good judgment of the executive committee in not putting the Fair on exhibition in an incomplete state.
