His saloon is a pleasant place tu go on a Saturday night. “Good goods and courteous treatment” is the motto of Fred’s popular resort. A@*vpical colony in Mexico has sent to Felix Gillet, the nurseryman of this city, for a quantity of walnuts and an American colony in Ouba wants a number of walnut trees, The Government also wants some walnut trees for experimental planting in British Columbia. All this is not out of the Ordinary, however, as Mr. Gillet’s fame as a viticulturist is known far and wide and he frequeotly bas orders to fill from foreign countries. The Board of Oity Trustees held a special meeting last evening and selected President O. W. Chapman to represent the city at the convention of the League of Municipalities, which convenes at Stockton next Wednesday. The League will be in session three days. Perry B. Brown, for many years a resident of the North San Juan Ridge, in palmy days, died in San Francisco Tuesday and wes buried under the auspices of the Elks yesterday. Deceased was a native of Pennsylvania, aged 60 years, 5:months and 1 day. To mourn his demise is left a wife, a daughter of Robert Hughes and wife, who resided on the Ridge for years.
