this time of the year, fill “their stores with
articles of all kinds suitable for the holiday
trade. If the sales are successful then a
profit on the speculation is the result, but if
the sales afe-émall ‘arid a heavy stock has to
be carried over till next year, then loss will
follow, as, no matter how careful one may
be, the value of fancy goods will deteriorate
by storing. First and foremost there is no
mediam like a progressive daily paper to
let the people know what you have for sale.
If you have @ large stock then let your advertising be in proportion If you have only
a few extras then merely say so in your
usual advertisement, or, if you are not a
regular advertiser engage space enough to
state what you have. Jt does not pay to
put in an ordinary business card when You
have a special line of goods tosell. The only
successful way is to state distinctly and hon
estly what you have and the merits of the
goods, With this done, the articles referred to should be tastefully displayed in
the store and in the windows; this attracts
the eye and usually secures a free pass to
the inside of the pocket-book, There are
many who have not the time te devote to
writing attractive advertising and it takes
years of study to accomplish headway in
this important department, To all such Tue
