Death of Patrick Hennessy.
Telegraph: Thursday Morning one of
Grass Valley’s old citizens joined’ the great
the interior counties, with rare exceptions,
and those only in the great railroad centers,
remained loyal. I say this without any
criticism of the faithful Republicans in
San Francisco; they, tov, did their duty,
but they were proportionately fewer in
number—in fact the country nominated me
and the country supported me at the polls;

A few words will show the extent of these
services: I received more than 10,000 plurality outside of San Francisco,
When I made my first speech at the
Wigwam, had an election then been held,
our party, owing to the railroad strikes,
would have been overwhelmingly beaten,
but in time there was a decided change in
our favor, and 1 am gratified to. believe
that I contributed something to the result,
I wish to say a word personal to myself,
Let me say furI fought for the success of our party

seemed to take in California, the Republicang suffered most. The Republican party

jto be put up, besides putting on the crossbeams, before the wires can be run and the
telephones put in for the subscribers, The
crew of five or six men who are here putting
up the line and attending to other work
are experts in the business and are doing
everything in the best: manner and with a
view to permanency.
When the local” exchange ‘is in working
order it will be a great convenience to all
the subscribers, as they can then communiGrass Valley without leaving their stores,

San Francisco with the aid of. these instruments. :

RELIABLE.
The great interest taken in: our Budd-Estee contest by
the people of this county was manifested by the large number
of votes recorded by us. We have not, as yet, awarded the
prizes, on account of not having received the’ official vote of
the State. The success of our first premium offering was so
great it has prompted us to again place before our friends a
handsome gift.
With every purchase of one to five dollars we give a
numbered coupon, entitling the holder to a chance to win a.
beautiful Sofa Cushion that will be shown in our window on
Monday next. We retain the corresponding number on a
stub, which is deposited in a sealed box. .
On the night of January 12th, 1895, we will have a little
lady blinded with a handkerchief, draw the stub from the box
and that number wins the Cushion.
