BRIBE MENTION, Minor Notes and Comments of Local Interest. Foster predicted snow, rain, hail and blizzards for this week. The lovely spring weather today does not look much like it. The displays of holiday goods at the stores in this city are more attractive this year than ever before. Yesterday was a disagreeable pee very sharp north wind prevailing most of the day. Three new dwelling houses are being built on “the bedrock” just west of the city limits. One of the stractares is nearly finished. Chris Webber is having a bay window put in the second story of his fine residence at the head of West. Broad street. The dwelling house formerly owned by Mrs. John McCoy at Wood’s ravine, and which was purchased some time ago by Joseph Schuster of the Champion Mining Company, has been fixed up and put in good repair. Francis of Oakland arrived here on the morning train. _ Edwin Tilley is able to be around again. : Free Woodman returned last night from a visit to Woodland. J. W. Brace and wife have returned from a visit at San Francisco. J. E. Isaac left yesterday for San Francisco on a business trip. W. G. Richards has returned from a visit at San Francisco. Marvin Power, the Columbia Hill school teacher, was in‘this city Saturday. Major C. Davis of the Debris Commission past through this city Saturday on his way to San Francisco. Jackson Calvert is confined to his bed with a severe attack of rheumatism. Mrs. Keeler and daughter, of MonteV.G.; Lily White, Rec. Sec.; Fannie . sold by the can. zima Hill, have gone to Racreanenty on a visit. Miss Grace Lackwood of San Francisco arrived here on the morning train on a visit. Mrs. John A. Mulloy by the Justice. day. Eugene C. Hegarty, who has been to Moore’s Flat on a visit to his parents arrived here last evening on his way to San Francisco. H. C. Reck, M. B. Amsel, F. Hess, C. L. Rhodes, Geo. Bachel, P. H. Dawson and W.T. Hawley, of San Francisco, are in town. John C. Donnelly, the popular traveling man of San Francisco, arrived here yesterday in the interest of Moore, Hunt & Company. Mrs. J. M. Hadley, who has been visiting in San Francisco and Oakland, for the past two months, returned Saturday, accompanied by Mrs. Houston of San Francisco, who will visit Mrs. J. M. Hadley and Mrs. Geo. E. Turner of this city. W. M. Ric formerly railroad agent on the Mohave desert, and who. resigned some time ago, leaves for Chicago in a few days. He has accepted a position as traveling representative for a wholesale cigar and tobacco firm in the East. Eucouraging Reports. The mining outlook at and around Canada Hill is very encouraging, and it is rumored a sale will soon be made to San Francisco parties of one of the best prospects in that district. If the sale is consummated it will lead to renewed activity in that quarter. It is reported that rich ore was struck . City, and his many friends will ‘be glad in the Pittsburg mine last week. It is among the current items of news that Mrs. Ida Harper, for some time past a resident of Oakland, has been selected to write the biography of Susan B Anthony. Mrs. Harper took ‘a leading part in the campaign of the woman suffragists in this State. She wrotea great many articles for the press which, attracted attention. They were clear and strong, and always to thepoint. There was the journalistic art of putting the case which counts for much in ‘influencing public opinion. Miss. Anthony is the most fam ous woman in this country. It is an honorable fame. She has been at the head of the great:move‘ment for woman’s suffrage, and has inspired much of. its ‘more. effective work, The illustrious wom&n will have a fitting biographer. The work of the subject’ has“been monumental. The work of the biographer will be todo justice to so grand a character. “Officers E Etected.
