BRIBE MENTION,
Minor Notes and Comments of Local
Interest.
Foster predicted snow, rain, hail and
blizzards for this week. The lovely
spring weather today does not look
much like it.
The displays of holiday goods at the
stores in this city are more attractive
this year than ever before.
Yesterday was a disagreeable pee
very sharp north wind prevailing most
of the day.
Three new dwelling houses are being
built on “the bedrock” just west of the
city limits. One of the stractares is
nearly finished.
Chris Webber is having a bay window
put in the second story of his fine residence at the head of West. Broad
street.
The dwelling house formerly owned
by Mrs. John McCoy at Wood’s ravine,
and which was purchased some time
ago by Joseph Schuster of the Champion Mining Company, has been fixed
up and put in good repair.

Eucouraging Reports.
The mining outlook at and around
Canada Hill is very encouraging, and
it is rumored a sale will soon be made
to San Francisco parties of one of the
best prospects in that district. If the
sale is consummated it will lead to renewed activity in that quarter.
It is reported that rich ore was struck . City, and his many friends will ‘be glad
in the Pittsburg mine last week. The to learn of the high honor he has reNot Piantea Yet.
-$o Durrant is not s not dead yeti” The
Supreme Court will decide Monday
whether some section of the red tape
which surrounds this assassin’s case
is tied properly or not. Meanwhile;
the most brutal murderer of the age
fattens in the county jaii at the expense of the tax-payers, says the News
Letter. Heis just about fat enough
now to die. ‘The Durrant=carcass
to present to our law-makers; or he
might be trussed up, disembowelod
and stuffed with the codes; then, if
roasted over a slow fire, he would: have
have time to mediate over his successfal career as a pillar of the. church.«
Another good scheme might be to cut
off a Durrant hand or foot, or even a
finger or a toe, every time the Supreme
Court delays his execution. Then, you
see, when the scoundrel is finally
strung up,-there will not be so much
of him to die. Daisies‘should be growing over Durran’t guilty breast.

Good Biographer and Subject.
It is among the current items of news
that Mrs. Ida Harper, for some time
past a resident of Oakland, has been
selected to write the biography of Susan
B Anthony. Mrs. Harper took ‘a leading part in the campaign of the woman
suffragists in this State. She wrotea
great many articles for the press which,
attracted attention. They were clear
and strong, and always to thepoint.
There was the journalistic art of putting
the case which counts for much in ‘influencing public opinion. Miss. Anthony is the most fam ous woman in this
country. It is an honorable fame. She
has been at the head of the great:move‘ment for woman’s suffrage, and has
inspired much of. its ‘more. effective
work, The illustrious wom&n will have
a fitting biographer. The work of the
subject’ has“been monumental. The
work of the biographer will be todo justice to so grand a character.
