Copy of the Act Relating to This Work for 1894, ‘By request of several of our readers we publish the Act of Congress Telating to as sessment work on mining claims for 1894; An act to amend section numbered twenty-four of the Revised Statutes of the United States relating to Mining Claims. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that the . . ‘ provisions of section numbered twenty-three hundred and twenty-four of the Revised Statutes of the United States, which require that on each claim located after the~tenth day of May, eighteen hundred and seventytwo, and until patent has been issued therefor, not less than one hundred dollars worth of laber shall be performed or improvements made during each yéar, be, suspended for the year eighteen hundred and ninety-four, so that no mining claim which has been regularly located and recorded as required by the local laws and mining regulations, shall be subject to forfeiture for non-performance of the annual assessment for the year 1894: Provided, That the claimant or claimants of any mining location, in order to secure the benefits of this Act, shall cause to be recordin ‘the office where the location notice or’ ‘certificate is fild on or before December 31st, 1894, a notice that he or they in good faith intend to hold and work said claim. Provided, however, That the Provisions. of this Act shall not apply to, the State of South Dakota, Sec. 2, That this act shall take effect from and after its passage. Approved July 18, 1894, NOTICE OF GOOD FAITH, amount of capital which is required to op. erate the property. Of course a set of upscruplous fakirs with no reputation to lose are willing to offer anything to make a little money out of the transaction. The people they deal with are deceived in this case by both men and mines, Too much. care cannot be exercised in making an investiga~ tion of properties before investing, and the record of the men presenting them should be run down ih every case, This can easily be done by applying for the necessary in” formation from reputable people in this city. when the property is located in California, A timely hint about some plausible rascal’s career obtained from a reliable source may be the means,of saving many thousands of dollars, ‘\While there are ‘many good prospects’ in this State which can be take taken up with safety, the mine . witb a reputation dating back to ’49 should be rejected in all cases, where a large amount of money is asked on possibilities, Honest men, when they intend to act fairly with this kind, are content, with working capital for new development work, to prove whether ancient history is to be repeated at this late date. To pay a large sum down for the privilege of proving this at one’s own expense, can be best compared to “Luyitiy a pig in a poke,” ’ eat eee BANKER KELLY. Fourteen cents a pound, live weight, is the present market price for turkeys in this city. : Although there have been high winds the past two or three nights we have not heard of any damage being done. Everybody is tired of the storm already and wants to gee it clear up. ‘The weather the past week has been very disagreeable, The present storm has driven large numnbers of geese from the mountain streams and lakes to the rivers and sloughs in the valleys, \ Today was pay-day at the following mines:. West Harmony, Providence, Champion, Moun'aineer, Home, Federal Loan, Mayflower, Spanish, and Nevada City. The Native Daughters have selected very pretty programs for their New Year's ball. They will be printed at the Transcripr job office, which is prepared to execute this class of work in the most tasty manner. PERSONAL POINTERS.
