‘The star, Mise Waldrén, deserves the
cognomen, and her company is re‘freshingly first-class. It has been the
habit of certain stars, especially in the
line of legitimate drama, to surround
themselves with a ‘support calculated
possibly to show off themselves to
great advantage, but incompetent to
do mere than barely satisfy the audience. Such is not the case with Miss
Waldorf. Her talents. are such that
they can stand out from thé best of
acting, and her company individually
and collectively are finished actors
well known in their profession and
who have held prominent. roles in the
best of companies. The costuming is
superb and the performance runs as
smoothly and forcibly as only skillful
training and hard study can make it
do. Miss Waldorf’s Juliet has been
country. It isa revelation from the
the moment she steps upon the stage
as the Italian maiden to whom love is
yet a rosy illusion, threagh the stormy
ways of her ill-starred life. Passionate,
tender, defiant of fate itself, triumphant in the face of death, she thrills:
the audience who disperse, barely
speaking, into the night, still under
spell of her wonderful acting. It: is
impossible to mention all the company.
Mr. McGregor, who as Romeo shared
the applause with the star throughout
the play and deepened the bold his Orlando made on the public favor, and
Mr. McVay as Mercutio were perhaps
the most prominent, yet no part is a
minor part in Shakespere.and all of
them were well handled. When Miss
-Waldorf returns to Nevada Oity, as we
trust she will some day after her foreign tour, she will find a host of friends
to eagerly welcome her.

Work of Years Condensed to a Few
Hours by Electricity.
A process for seasoning wood by:
electricity has been discovered and accomplishes in afew hours what formerly réquired years of natural drying.
The timber to be treated is put into
a quadrangular tank of liquid,immersed
to rather more than half its depth, and
an electric current applied through a
metallic conductor, so arranged as to
distribute it throughout the area, and
it is stated that in a space of four minutes the sap begins to exude at the
lower end of the. wood; in six hours it
is all extracted. The wood jis then
placed in another tank from which a
septic solution is injected into the
pores by an electric-capillary method.
Another important advantage of the
process is that it destroys all wood devouring insects and the septic fluid -injected in the pores of the wood secures
it from their ravages.
