Are We to Have An. other Plant Here, For some time {t-has been an open secret that the South Yuba Water Company contemplated putting in an electric plant at some point not deteraiined upon. The purpose of the plant was to furnish power for thie section of the country. It is a4id that they have more water than they can dispose of and therefore would utilize some of it in the way of an electric plant. An Alta cofrespondent of the Colfax Sentinel-has-this-to-say—of-the new project;. “*[t is the intention of the South Yuba Water Co. to place an electric plant here ‘the coming season to furnish. power for Nevada City., Work is td begin in the .spring as soon as the weather is settled.” Resumed Work Tbe McCutchan mine at Canada Hill was started up this moaning, and work will be carried on as long as the supply of water lasts for the work. The ditches and flames have been repaired put in good condition, and everything looks favorable for the season’s run. The Bee Euehered, The Sacramento Bee bas been making a great and thought to be very successful fight against the nickel-inthe-slot machine, but “Uncle George,” the Mayor, is said to have knocked the stuffin’ out of it. The Bee gets wratby because it has been euchered on the second hand, and this is the way that paper tells about it: “The saloonkeepers, through a perfected organization, had laid their plans and commenced carrying them out, even before the Board’s endorsement of Chief Sullivan, so sure were they that the scheme would work suoccessfully. Advantage isto be taken of the Mayor’s stand that machines which pay winnings in cigars can run, and the otber mechines will, in a few days, be turning out teer checks for winning numters; and these will be redeemed in cash, less a small commission, atthe bar. And so can men aud youth continue to gamble at the machines; so does “Clean Town George” hope to cater to the overwhelming demand of the business and family element of the city by closing ap money paying machines while at the same time he redeemed his anteelection ‘pledge to the saloonkeepers by permitting them to run machines which pay in beer checks—transferable into coin. saad New Advertisement. We learn from a very reliable authority that a short time since some of the leading mining capitalists of San Francisco bonded a large tract of land at whatis known as Remington Hill, about eighteen miles from this city. Itis a drifting proposition, and work will be commenced upen it just as seon as the weather is settled in the spring. A well-known miniug man of this city will superintend the ‘Opening up of the property. Set In early times this section was one, of the richest gravel spots in this section of the State, and an immense amount of gold was taken out when the miners were on the channel. There is no question about the succees of the new operators of this enterprise, as they have plenty of capital to develop this property as it should be. That there is an immense deposit of rich gravel running through Remington Hill and all along that ridge isa certainty. It will require quite an outlay of money on the start, but eventually the capitalists will be amply rewarded for their investment. Buried al Oakland.
