Mr. Dungan is well insowee at this

whatever he may have said: toexcite his

making a holy show of itself in the

“From what we are able te. feats in.
segard to the case now pending between the city and those _living in the:
‘vicinity of the sewer farm, it is time
that a compromise of some kind was
effected: ‘Trustee Bandy does not hesitute to say that he is in favor of thus
bringing the litigation to an end and’
he says that two of his colleagues are
of the same mind. While not speaking
authoritatively, we understand that
the appellants would not object to a
compromise that would -canse the removal of the.nuisance from their midst
to a point two and one-half miles beiow; it is not a question of obtaining
damages with them, but to get rid of
it. It would be cheaper to do this than
to stand the expense of the suit—in
case it is lost—whicb amounts to nearly
$250 a day. This is our private opinion

pleased to get the sentiment of the

magnificent display of intelligence and

Oar respected Assessor, William H.
Martin, has a fine exhibit of some of
his mining interests in this county.
The Golden Jubilee Fair is a benefit

Last night at nine . ° o'clock a sound as
of the bursting of a. pipe-line and the
rushing of water was heard about town.
It appeared to come from the direction
of the Mayflower or Marchie. mine.
The sound was occasioned by the

twice—at nine and eleven o'clock.
‘Started the Steam Pump.
The steam pump at the Phonix mine
has ‘been started for. the purpose of

just below the 800 foot level, and the
old water-power pump has not yet been
reached. The ejector and water car
heretofore in use did not work rapidly
enough at that depth.

are improving it. Just so with your
