Los ANGELES, February 15—The trial
of Colonel Griffith J, Griffith, the wellknown Los Angeles capitalist and repated millionaire, on « charge of assault and attempted murder, for having shot his wife in the eye with a revolver io their room at the Hotel Arcania, Santa Monica, on the 8d of last
September, was called this morning in
Jadge Smith’s division of the Superior
Court. The case gives every promise
of being a hard fought one on both
sides. Colonel Griffith is defended by
he law firm of Rogers & Brown, and
Dietrict Attorney Fredericks is being
assisted in the prosecution by ex-Governor Gage and attorney Isadore Dockweiler. The work of impanelling a

Tom Robinson Is Now
Numbered With the
Dilent Majority.
Thomas Robinson, an old-time resident, died suddenly this afternoon at
his home near Pise Grove Oemetery.
He complained of not feeling well
when he arose this morning, and
shorily after elight o’clock went
cut to procure some meat from
Aumer’s ‘delivery wagon. Suddenly
be seemed to lose his memory, and
re'urned to his house and complained
of severe pains in his head. Dr. 0. L.
Muller was summoned and found that
a blood vessel in the brain had
been ruptured. Everything possible
was done for the old-timer, and he
fell into a deep sleep. Attwo o’clock
he passed away. He was a native of
Ohio and aged 68 years. ‘
The deceased was well and favor‘ably known in this community for
many years. He was a carpenter,
and worked at his trade, in addition to
attending to his ranch, where he settled soon after coming to this city.
For forty years he has labored among
our people, seeing the ups and downs
as is characteristic of the early pionesrs who are One by one harkening
the call to another world.
To mourn the loss of a busband and
father whose every thought and care
was of his home and family, are left a
wife and four chilren, as follows: Mrs.
Ada Norton, Mrs. Frank Weeks, Mrs,
L. B. Weeks and W. T. Robinson.

The heavy downpour that kept up
incessantly until after three o’clock
this morning brought the rainfall for
the season ap to 87.82 inches. “The
precipitation since yesterday morning
at nine o’clock was 8.29 inches, making
13.86 inches eo far this month, which
greatly exceeds the rainfall for a like
period in February for many years
past. :

and at three o’clock this morning the
water was a foot above the high-water
mark on the rock wall below the

early part of the night to see the

days at O. A. Shurtleff ’s home on the
Banner road, left for San Francisco

long-string of fine race horses at the
Bay, and he intends to soon take them
to St. Louis. He also has in eontemplation a later trip to France,
where he will enterthem at some of
