Editorial Notes.
Without joining in the present . disouasoh as to wpether Uncle Tom’s cabin

positively that nine out of ten southerners who denounce the book have
never read it but. have drawn their
opinion as to it from the colored lithcgraphic posters that herald the coming
of the play based on it.

Oom Paul has had hiseyes operated

error of his ways.
We really wonder in what direction
the spirit of feminine unrest will break
out next. Mrs. Nation’s escapades ar:
merely part of thie general feeling for
revolt.

To Have a New Church.
The Smartsville correspondent of the
Marysville Appeal writes as follows:
At the last M. E. Onarch quarterly
eonference held a few days ego the
question of a new church for this place
was pretty thoroughly discussed and
approved. In fact all were in favor of
and some quite anxious for tie new
edifice. Everything was quite satis—
factorily arranged so that nothing now
remains as an obstruction, but—well,
yes, there seems to bea“but” Still,
of @ very small consequence; it is simply a slight insufficiency of finances,
that’s all, To overcome thia slight impediment, the Rev. J. G. Sigler of Fernley, assisted by J. T. Vineyard and others, will solicit throughout the district and there—well, there is no use
being too impetuous; the architect. has
not yet formulated the plans, or at
least bas not yet. presented them, so we
must exercise a little patience.
