An old diiner said he would not be surpriscd . if the whole river would soon be staked out. Bear river is rich in tine gold, and though no large strikes have been made work by sluicing or rocking pays good wages. Some: ‘points of the river are worked over each year, paying from $1 to $5 per man. ‘Niemeyer Bros., of; Wheatland, bought about one hundred dollars worth of float gold which was brought in last week bya Placer county man. This gold was mined in the neighborhood of old Mineral Hill. There are no new developments in the Jeff Thomas’ Klondye as sluicing has been suspended awaiting rain. Several days ago while prospecting on Bear river, John ds panned out a two and a half piece of the mintage 1845. The coin was bright and fresh as if just from the mint. The resting place of the coin was on the bank among roots and grasses and it is reasonable to suppose that it was dropped there by some sturdy miner who trudged Bear river with pick and pan in the early forties or fifties.
