Uffering Money to an Officer. Hung Hi, a Chinese merchant whose place of business is on Commercial street, near York, was arrested this afternoon on a charge of attempting to bribe an officer. He went to Marshal Getchell and offered to give him $70 if he would not give any damaging testimony-against the Chinamen who were arrested for gambling Sunday night. The bribe offerer was taken to the county jail. 7’ Oe Telephonic Briefs From Grass Valley. A public meeting, called by the Mayor, will be held at Grass Valley Sunday to take steps towards starting a relief fund for the Kansas.and Nebraska sufferers. Constable-Loehr arrested five hobos near the depot this afternoon. The only property found on them was an empty bottle, labeled alcohol.
