He is looked up‘. owner of the hair calmly picked up bis EST. IN 1860 BY N. P, BROWN & CO, MI NSE EEE A Pennsylvania Youth. § Like Samson of Old. . With the apparent ease of a professional strong man fhiis 10-year-old boy juggles heavy iron safes, lifts barrels of sugar weighing .150 pounds and Plays with ponderous weights and dumbbells*running in weight from 50 to 300 pounds: His name is Willie Reynolds, and he is described ‘by a Jersey Shore correspondent of the New York World. WILLIE REYNOLDS, Like the Scriptural Samson, he believes that the secret. of his strength lies in his long :bair. When Willie was born, his hair, golden in color, was fully two inches long It now hangs belowhis waist, never having been’ visited by the barber's Shears. ; Residents of Jersey Shore and tourists from all parts of the state who have witnessed Master Willie’s feats of on. by them almost as a reincarnation of the great Samson of Biblical fame. Whether or. not the boy’s great strength lies in bis hair is a question which be does not wish to decide by allowing himself to be shorn of his locks, an operation which he refuses to undergo. Willie is apparently more proud of his hair than he is of his great physical strength. He declares that he would far sooner part with his right arm than bis golden tresses, The boy’s father is William Reynolds, a resected townsman of Jersey Shore. “We began to notice Willie’s great strength,” said he to a Sunday World reporter, “when he was about 3 years old. ‘As a.baby he was far in advance of his years in muscular development. rocks and his chest expansion sdmething extraordinary. What we most marveled at, though, was his curtous growth of hair. I had never heard of a baby born with so much hair, and he didn’t seem to mind any one pulling it either. I have frequently taken hold of-it, lifted him from the floor and held him out at arm’s length, with never a murmur from the child. For that reason I have never allowed his hair to be cut, fearing that his health might be affected. “} am firmly convinced that my son’s strength lies in his hair. His apparent muscular. development at present is no different. from that of an ordinary youth who has perfect health. His left arm 1s no bigger, the right only slightly Jarger. Where does his great strength come from if not from his bair? “Only a week ago he tried his hand with several full grown men at a weight lifting machine, and when the ofhers had tug: ged away the machine with all their might Willie took hold of the handle and without apparent effort pulled the whole thing from its fastenings.” Several attempts have beeh made by practical jokers to deprive the young Samson of his golden tresses, and only his strength and qgtiickness of action have saved them for him. Two men stopped the little fellow. when, on his way to school about a year ago. One of’them tried to hold his arms while the other grabbed his hair, which was done up in two [ong braids, and with a sharp knife attempted to cut it off. Several spectators say that in the twinkling of an eye both men were sent sprawling in the gutter, while the books and scampered off to school. In bygdne. days, when the stages wheeled their way. up from Northumbérland to Williamsport, the four in the turnip patch, and the strange garden of rocks was a constant source of wonderment to the traveler. Added to its interest as a natural curiosity is a hidden stream of water somewhere beneath the standing stones, the noisy flowing of which forms a romantic song beneath one’s’ feet. Nobody knows where the source of this stream is, nor can anybody find where it empties itself inte Black Hole valley. The rock field covers an area of two or three acres, with its widest part to the north, then narrowing. down .V shaped to the south, where the, angle is lost in a fringe of stunted hemlocks and elders. Theorists have figured on the cause of this mountain freak, but the theory obtaining most credence is that it is a legacy. ofthe glacial age, into their present vertical position by the moving ice.—Philadelphia Record. “ler Proposats, Talking of the Baroness BurdettCoutts Lord Houghton said: ‘Miss Coutts likes me because I never proposed to ber, Almost all the young men of good tavhy did.
