Walling of Nevada City will seek. the ‘Republican nomination for Congress for the Second District Judge Walling is a strong man, extremely popular in the mining counties . and thoroughly acceptable to the agricultural portions of the district. He was Department Commander of the Grand Army in California last year, is a leading Odd Fellow, and is well known throughout the State. He has served on. the judicial bench with great distinction. THE BOARD OF TRADE. An Important Meeting at the Courthouse . This Evening, Every citizen should help along the movement to improve and beantify Nevada City by attending tonight’s meeting of the Board of Trade. The annual election of officers is to be held,. an executive committee must be selected, and other business will come up for attention. This organization has already during its brief career accomplished much good for the town, and there:is much for it to do hereafter. It should be encouraged and aided by the moral support of every resident. At the meeting. tonight the Grand Army and Relief, Corps committees appoiuted to assist in preparing for the reception and entertainment of the G. A. R. Encampment to be held at this city beginning April 19th, will be present. It is understood to be the intention of the Board of Trade to assist the local Posts in giving the several handred delegates who are coming a fitting welcome. A-PRESH-NEW. STOCK. J. Levy Re-opeas His Clothing Store on Commercial Street. As will be seen in his advertisement on the second page of today’s TransoriPT, J. Levy has re-opened his clothing store on Commercial street. The old stock. has, all been taken to Grass Valley where it is being auctioned off, and in its place is a brand new assortment of men’s clothing, furnishing goods, hats and caps, footwear for men, women and children, blankets, ete. March actual work will begin in the coustruction of the new city water . works. Surveyor Miller has nearly completed the preparation of the preliminary papers. Tomorrow night they will be considered. and then the work of advertising for bids will probably be proceeded with. Bids are to be received on any or all. of the work and materials. It will be specified that wherever practical the work is to be done by permanent residents of Nevada City, and that no Chinese be hired. -There will be over five miles of gew pipes and ninety-five fire hydrants of which fourteen in the business dis-' trict will be double-nozzle.
