Aphnasia and Amnesia,
Aphasia is an affection'akin to amnesia,. both of them being the result of
a disease of the cerebrum. But amnesia, or loss of memory, manifests itself in an inability to recall events or
words and in the latter case the substitution of wrong words in the place
of those intended to be used: -For in
stance, a brush might be spoken of as
a comb or a dog as a giraffe. There ig
no loss of the power of articulation. In
aphasia, or loss of speech, on the other
hand, the sufferer is unable to utter
any connected sentence. -Hisspeech ts
often the merest babble, with-an occasional word interjected. He may understand wiat is read to bim, yet be
inable to read—he may have, that is,
“word Dbiindness,” or he may have
“word deafuess” and be unablé to un
derstand what is said to him.
