This development has been anticipated by Mr. Chappellet for several days. It 18 possible that the channel just found is not the main one. Experts have expressed the opinion that there were at least two channels in the Eureka ground. i : The Santa Rosalia mize of Mexico, the property owned by ex-Lieutenant Governor John Daggett, Charles G. Yale and other well known people, which has attracted much attention on account of richness of the ores shipped o the smelters, has not been producing much for several months past. A stamp mill has been installed as well as an air compressor and the steam pumps and engines in the mine have been replaced by machinery operated by compressed air. Previous to the change it was impossible for the men to work in some parts of the mine on account of the beat. The mill is now in operation and new bodies of ore have been struck, and the future of the mine is brighter than ever. Treasure came to California from Pennsylvania and settled: in Sierra Valley. With the small means at their command they engaged bering, and until five years ago 0 ed a little sawmill which supplied local consumers. Among other friends they made ‘was Laz Levy, proprietor of a general merchandise store, who often was threatened with shipwrecks, The little town of Sierraville was twice destroyed by fire, and Levy finally left there, financially broken, and went to San Francisco. Five years ago the Treasure brothers called on Levy in San Francisco and told him business was dead in the old town and that they were about to embark for Alaska or South Africa. A coin tossed up in Levy's presence turned the scale in fayor of the north, and from that time on nothing was heard from the brothForty Mile teHing of the probable rush across the line and requesting him to join them, in the new diggings. They had been“in business in Forty Mile since their arrival in Alaska and proposed to transfer their base of operations to what is now Dawson. Levy was not enthusiastic over the Alaskan dlimate, and so remained in San Francigcd, but the brothers went to Dawson and -prospered in business there, even beyond their expectations. Levy was surprised one day late last August by receiving a call from the Treasures. They brought with them gold dust amounting 'to over a quarter of a million dollars and a record of thirteen paying claims around Dawson. Calling to his ‘mind the favors bestowed on them in the past, the now wealthy brothers put their money ‘at Levy’s disposal with the suggestion that a partnership be formed in any line he might select. The offer was accepted in the same spirit that prompted it. Early in September, as soon as these arrangements were completed, the brothers left for their old -home in Tamaqua, Pa. While there Benjamin, the younger, fell in love with Miss, Florence Willingale, daughter of his mother’s schoolmate. The young lady’s mother objected to the marriage on account of the girl’s youth and the couple were in despair, when, during & trip Hast, Levy visited Tamaqua. Wires were broken and pulled down and for a time there was no communication by wire west of Tunuel 18.. Monday afternoon the Overton enloaded with boxes. When the train reached the cut beyond the Sierra Valed that the engine could not get through with the cars, so-the cars were left and the engine started on to ‘Trackee. About a mile out of town the engine became blocked in the snow, where it remained all night. Engineer “7. J. Giffen and Fireman John Lee stayed with the engine all night. Nex t morning a force of men were sent out from Overton and by hard work they succeeded in getting into the round house at seven o’clock last evening. They were compelled to melt snow to get water for the boiler. It will probably be some time before the freight cars can be brought in. * —— — + Ge > Rathbone Sisters install Tonight.
