It ig as follows: Grass Valley, $879.57: Nevada Oity, $942.69; Meadow Lake, $627.09: Thie makes a total of $2,449,85, while the taxes for this purpose from-the county amount to only $600, The apportionment is based on the at tendance, namely: Grass Valley, 68 Nevada City, 71; Meadow Lake, 81. The new law, which was passed by the last Legislatare, is of great benefit to thie county, inasmuch as the amount of State: money received is sbont four times as ‘much as the sum paid in the way of additional taxes. The law requires that a speciil tex of one per cent. be levied throughout the State for the support of ‘the high schools. In several counties there are no high schools and the counties that have them are the ones that are the most benefited. In Nevada county there are three high echools, while in some counties there are many more and they are correspondingly better off, The total number of high schools in the State is 148, and $164,93.88 constitate the sum raised for distribation. County Superintendent Joseph GQ.
