Frank. Holbrook Stabbed by William
see ‘OHearn. _
Saturday afternoon about 5 o ‘clock William O’Hearn and Frank Holbrook got into
a quagrel on Pine street, near, Spring, during which O’Hearn drew a poeket knife and.
stabbed Holbrook, the blade entering the
latter’s side, near the waist, producing a
wound about two inches long, but not more
than a quarter of an inch deep. The blow
was a dewnward one, and did not cause
much injury, the thick shirts worn by Holbrook preventing the knife from cutting very
deep.
It seems that O’Hearn was bothering a
boy and that Holbrook took the boy’s part,
this act of his causing the row that ended in
the stabbing. Both men had been drinking. oa
O’Hearn was taken before Justice Mulloy, and a charge preferred against him for
assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was
fixed at $500, in default of which he was
taken to the county jail, His hearing has
32en set for Wednesday.

Accident.to Victor Clement.
Grass Valley Telegraph: The many
friends here of Victor Clement will be
pained to learn that he met ,with an accident some time since by which he-loses the
use of his right arm. Mr. Clement is managing large mining properties in Johannesburg, South Africa, and while on his way: to
his business his team ran away and Mr.
Clement was thrown to the ground. This
fall was a violent one, resulting in a broken
collar-bone and a dislocated elbow. The
collar-bone was set and soon got all right,
but the the surgeon did not discover. that
the elbow was dislocated for quite a while,
in fact, not until it was too late to remedy
the injury, The best surgeons in Africa were
consulted, but could do nothing for Mr.
Clement,_.He finally went to Paris, France,
do nothing for him. His right arm is éntirely useless and always will be. We learn
that Mr. George Starr is filling the position
j occupied by Mr, Clement as mining Superintendent.Mr= Clement was for. some

Attempted Burglary.
Thieves tried to break into Mrs. Dickerman’s house on Winter street, a few nights
ago, but were frightened off. They then
attempted to get into John Heyer’s residence, next door, and succeeded in opening
one of the doors, when they were alarmed
by the barking of a dog and fled. There is
no doubt but what the town is infested with
sneak thieves, burglars and other hard
characters. They are being driven out of
other places and if these worthies are not
kept moving their number will continue to
increase.
