Yesterday afternoon a meeting was
held at the home of Mra. J. M. Hadley
on Main street, when steps toward arranging for the big night were taken.

had the misfortane to severely injure
the member, and ten years ago Dr.
Lane of San Franciseo operated apon
the knee and afforded the necessary
relief, but the constant using of the
limb, coupled with an accident received while boarding a steamer at
Cape Nome.a few months ago, tended
to affect the knee and after suffering
much pain with it be again had it out
open and the cause removed. It will
be some time yet, however, before Mr.
Gourley will have much use for his
leg.

Police Organize.
CH1oaco, January 18.—Members of
Chicago’s police force, numbering 800
and including patrolmen and officers
of rank, have launched an orgenization to be known ae the “Policemen’s
Progressive Association.” Its principal object, it is said, will be the protection of its members against charges
made by criminals and thieves and on
evidence given by the latter to a local
graft investigation committee. The
charges have resulted in the discharge
of policemen, and they aseert that
their dismissal on such testimony is
unjust. The Graft committee was denounced,
